We use Psalm 139:1-18 to view our Loving, Creator Father.
We use John 7:37-39 to view Jesus Christ, the Living Water.
We use Acts 2:1-21 to view the Holy Spirit, the destructive and creative Fire.

Reminder... Homecoming is this Sunday!!!

Good Sunday morning!
Today, we end our study in Mark by reading Colossians 1:15-20, Mark 12:28-34, and Mark 14:3-9.
We have another powerful story showing a remarkable woman to end our time in Mark. It is only appropriate to do so the week after Mother's Day. We see the anointing of Jesus and talk about the power of anointing, both in ancient Israel and in our lives. We see what anointing can do and then remember the answer that Jesus gave when He was asked about what the most important Commandment was. Combining all of that with the words in Colossians that remind us that God is our Creator and that Jesus is perfect and has full authority will remind us to thank God for our personal anointing and will feel our hearts with happiness as we prepare for Homecoming next week and remember all of those amazing times with family and friends.
Sometimes, we have doubts and things seem dark. But we are the anointed of God, saved by the blood of Jesus. So even when life gets more interesting, we have the power of our Heavenly Father, the Salvation of Jesus Christ, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit every single day. Amen.

Good Sunday morning and Happy Mother's Day!
Today we read Proverbs 11:24-25, I Peter 2:4-10, and Mark 12:41-44.
The story of the poor widow's offering serves as a powerful inspiration today on Mother's Day. We look at it as a reminder of the power of both giving and faith! As we think back today and remember those amazing women who have shaped our lives, we will pay special homage to this poor widow and her amazing sacrifice as we know she was part of that Royal Priesthood. Praise be to God for this glorious Sunday and for all those inspirational women out there! Amen.

Good Sunday morning!
This morning, we look at Mark 11:27-33, Mark 12:38-40, and Philippians 2:5-11.
We are going to look at two teams this morning... Team Pharisees and Team Jesus. We will see what it means to be a part of each team and see that both exist in our world today and that both are wanting to get as many people on their teams as possible.
We will take time to pray for our churches and our communities and nation as we think about how devastating it can be when people and organizations and even churches choose the wrong team.
So, the question is... which team will you choose?

Happy Sunday!
This morning, we look at Exodus 20:1-8, Mark 10:17-31, and Mark 10:35-45.
We talk about the idea of serving God and how it must be done freely and with the proper respect and attitude. Jesus said that He did not come to be served, but rather to serve. He could have came down and demanded everyone to kneel before Him. Instead, He came to heal, teach, inspire, guide, and forgive.
Then, we look at the story of this rich young ruler. As far as we can tell, he was a smart and compassionate man. He had a great life. He obeyed those commandments relating to how to treat others well, but he lacked something important... the first four commandments. His wealth was both his best tool and his crutch in life.
We remember that for the church to truly serve God, we must embrace His will, trust Him, let go of sin, and let go of those earthly crutches.
The church is not here to be a house for the perfect, but rather to be a sanctuary for the imperfect, to give them guidance and nourishment. We are all a part of that mission to spread the love and the message of Christ. Amen.

Good Sunday morning!
Today, we read Mark 9:42-50, Mark 10:13-16, and Revelation 21:1-8.
We look at three qualities of salt. We see how it was a sign of God's faithfulness in the Old Testament as part of the grain sacrifice, how it changes the flavor of food, and how it preserves food. That is applied to our daily lives. Then, we focus on how we apply that in our lives and how we approach God... are we like those little children or do we bring sin and death with us? Are we curious and pure of heart and humble or do we let evil reign?
In Mark 9, Jesus used detailed imagery about cutting off a foot or hand or plucking out an eye to make a point about removing sin from our lives. Are we listening, because Hell is real. Finally, we look at the beautiful words of John in Revelation. The Holy City of God descends to the new Earth and God joins His children to dwell among them. No more tears, no sin, no death, water from the spring of life. What a picture! A place worthy of the name Paradise.
Are we living our lives in a way that we acknowledge that Holy City and the power of God daily?

We are going to spend our time up until Homecoming next month finishing our study in Mark. Today, we read Psalm 51:1-12, II Corinthians 5:16-6:2, and Mark 7:1-23.
In the story from Mark, we see the Pharisees at it again! They think they are better simply for engaging in a hand-washing ceremony before they eat. Of course, Jesus sets them straight and reminds them that being clean is not about some ceremony nor is it about what a person put in his/her stomach. It is about what is in the mind and heart. Do we put good wholesome things in our minds and hearts, or do we love to always snack on the junk food?
II Corinthians 5:16-6:2 reminds us that when we are saved, that we become new. It is time to look at life a little differently. Salvation is meant to be a life changing experience. Jesus became sin so that we would no longer be chained down by it.
Then in Psalm 51, David laments over his affair with Bathsheba. He made a huge mistake. We know that God would use this mistake to give Israel a future king, Solomon. In his psalm, David acknowledges that he sinned against God and begged for forgiveness.
Many times, we do try to watch what we put in our body. We feel sluggish or we look in the mirror and want to lose a couple pounds. So, in the same light, let us be mindful of what we put into our hearts and minds as well. Amen.
