As we gather this Memorial Day weekend, we pause to remember those who gave their lives in service to our country. We hold in our hearts the families who still feel their absence, the communities forever shaped by their loss, and the quiet rows of graves that speak of both courage and sorrow.

In our congregation, we do not celebrate war, but we do honor the dignity and worth of every person—including those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice. Memorial Day calls us to sit with the weight of that truth. It reminds us that peace is more than just the end of fighting; it is the presence of justice, compassion, and genuine care for one another.

This weekend, may we turn our remembrance into quiet resolve. Let us carry forward the spirit of those we honor by working for understanding across our differences, by building bridges instead of walls, and by living out our Unitarian Universalist values in ways that make war less necessary. In our shared life together, may we keep choosing love over fear and community over division.

🏳️‍🌈 Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT.)

May 17, 1990 — the day the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from its list of mental disorders.

That was only 36 years ago.

And while so much has changed, so much work remains. LGBTQIA+ people still face discrimination, violence, criminalization, and erasure in countries around the world — including right here in the United States.

Today we don't look away from that reality. We name it. We stand against it. And we stand together.

✊ We exist — proudly, defiantly, joyfully.
✊ We resist — every law, policy, and attitude that denies our humanity.
✊ We thrive — because our community is extraordinary and unstoppable.

To every q***r person reading this: you are not a disorder. You are not a mistake. You are not too much or not enough.

You are exactly who you are supposed to be.
