🎶 **Music Monday: Celebrating Evansville’s Joe Hinton** 🎶
Before his voice reached audiences across the country, Joe Hinton’s musical journey began right here in Evansville.
Born in 1929, Mr. Hinton grew up surrounded by the musical traditions that shaped his powerful voice, including the influence of gospel music. He went on to become a celebrated rhythm and blues vocalist whose smooth, emotional style earned him national recognition.
In 1964, Joe Hinton recorded “Funny,” a song written by Willie Nelson. His recording became his signature hit, reaching #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and introducing his unforgettable voice to listeners across the country.
Although his life was tragically cut short in 1968 at the age of 38, Joe Hinton’s music continues to be remembered by fans of soul and R&B.
Today, the Evansville African American Museum celebrates Joe Hinton’s talent, his Evansville roots, and the lasting impact of his music.
