Jesus called His first century disciples and He calls us, saying, “Come, follow Me.” The question of all questions is, “Does He know where He is going? Is that where I want to go, too?” That’s important because who you follow not only determines where you go, it also profoundly shapes what you experience and who you become along the way. Jesus’ first century disciples lived with Jesus, listened to Jesus, learned from Jesus. And, day by day, something of Jesus’ spirit began to be imprinted upon them. They began to see with the eyes of Jesus. They began to feel and care with the heart of Jesus. They began to reach out compassionately with the hands of Jesus. Over time, they began to look and sound like Jesus. And, they turned the world upside down.

You remember that, toward the end of Jesus’ life, He became aware that most people had rejected Him. Thousands had heard Him teach, and most of them said, “No.” How sad. All Jesus wanted to do was to love them. All He wanted to do was to bring them to the Father. All He wanted to do was to give them life at its best, and to help them make the world a better place for all God’s children. But, most of them listened, and then walked away. So, Jesus asked his disciples, “Will you also go away?” I love what Peter said in response. He said, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life!”

That’s what I have decided as well. Of all the choices available to me in life, I have decided that the best choice is to follow Jesus. I don’t know of a better picture of God than the one I see in Jesus. I don’t know of a more authentic and attractive model of human life than the one I see in Jesus. I don’t know of a better way for us to live with one another than the compassionate, serving, self-giving life modeled by Jesus. There is nothing that takes hold of me in the deep places of my life, challenges me, and calls forth the best from within me as does all of that that I see in Jesus.

Godly Mothers - A godly mother is one of Heaven’s greatest gifts to the Church and the home. Behind many strong Christians, faithful churches, and godly families stands a praying mother who loved God and taught others to love Him too. The influence of a godly mother reaches far beyond what she can see. Her prayers echo through generations. The Bible says, “Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her” (Proverbs 31:28). A godly mother may grow weary, unnoticed, and burdened at times, but God sees every sacrifice, every tear, and every prayer whispered late in the night.

We think of women like Hannah, who prayed faithfully for Samuel, and Mary, the mother of Jesus, who humbly submitted herself to the will of God. Godly mothers are not perfect mothers — they are mothers who trust a perfect God. The Church should thank God for mothers who pray, serve, encourage, teach, and love with Christlike compassion. Their faithfulness helps hold families together and points hearts toward Jesus Christ.

Today, let us honor and encourage the godly mothers among us. Their labor is not in vain in the Lord. “Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised” (Proverbs 31:30).

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for godly mothers who love You and faithfully serve their families and churches. Strengthen and encourage them today. Bless them for every prayer prayed, every sacrifice made, and every act of love shown. May their lives continue to shine as a testimony of Your grace and goodness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God keeps a watchful eye over us because we are important to Him. Yet, one of the deepest tragedies of life is that there are so many people who feel unimportant, worthless, unappreciated, unloved. All of us are born with this need to be somebody. This is a need which seems to be written into our blood. It is a need from which we are never free. It is a need as basic as life - the need to belong and be somebody.

The Twenty-third Psalm is one of the most powerful pieces of writing in existence. For many centuries, it has crossed the barriers of time, language, and culture to become one of the best-known and most-loved passages in the Bible. All who read this Psalm discover a quiet beauty of thought. It is a Psalm of spiritual insight. It is a Psalm which breathes confidence and trust in the Lord. It is a Psalm which reaffirms that you are important, you are loved, and you are somebody to God! The Lord is my Shepherd! Is He yours?

A young man went off to college. Apparently his mother had packed his suitcases. In the process of putting his clothing in drawers, he discovered two long narrow pieces of cloth among the shirts, socks and underwear. They were neatly folded and ironed. At first he didn't know what they were. But when he looked at the design of the cloth, he recognized the pattern. At last it came to him. These were the strings of his mother's apron. She had cut them off for him.

It's all right, parents, to be protective of your children. The proverbial apron strings may provide the security, guidance and support a child needs -- but only for a season. The day comes when the strings must be cut. Someone has said it well: "Our task as parents is not only to provide roots...but also wings."

Today is National Day of Prayer, which is a reminder that America’s greatest need is not political power, financial success, or human wisdom — it is God. Throughout Scripture, whenever God’s people humbled themselves and prayed, Heaven moved.
Prayer has always been the lifeline between a holy God and a needy people. Today, as families struggle, churches battle spiritual coldness, and our nation drifts farther from truth, the Church must once again fall on its knees before Almighty God.

The Bible says in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” Notice that God’s answer for a broken land is a praying people. Revival has never started in the White House — it starts in the prayer closet. Before there can be a move of God in the nation, there must first be a move of God in our hearts. Prayer is not our last resort; prayer is our greatest weapon.

James 5:16 declares, “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” God is searching for people who will pray fervently — not casually, not mechanically, but passionately and sincerely. America does not need less prayer; America needs more prayer. Our homes need prayer. Our churches need prayer. Our schools need prayer. Our leaders need prayer. Our children need prayer. And lost sinners all around us desperately need someone to intercede for their souls.

On this National Day of Prayer, may we not simply attend an event or observe a tradition. May we truly seek the face of God. The same God who heard Daniel in Babylon, Elijah on Mount Carmel, and Paul and Silas in a jail cell still hears praying people today. Join us today (May 7, 2026) at noon at Freedom Park located across from Holbrook Drug Store on Main Street in Morehead to celebrate National Day of Prayer. We hope to see you there.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father and Almighty Lord, we come before You today humbled and needy. We confess that we have often depended on ourselves more than we have depended on You. Forgive us for our lack of prayer, cold hearts, and wandering spirits. Stir Your people again to seek Your face with passion and sincerity. Send revival to our churches, healing to our homes, and salvation to our communities. Strengthen pastors, encourage missionaries, protect our leaders, and draw our nation back to righteousness. Break chains of addiction, heal the hurting, save the lost, and let another great awakening sweep across this land. Teach us to pray without ceasing and to trust You completely. May Your name be glorified in America once again.
In Jesus’ precious and holy name,
Amen

PRAYER - “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray…” (2 Chronicles 7:14). Prayer is not the last thing the child of God should do — it is the first thing. Before battles are won, before hearts are changed, before revivals break out, before families are restored, somebody must pray. Prayer is the lifeline between earth and Heaven. It is where weak men touch a strong God. It is where burdens are lifted, chains are broken, and hope is reborn.
Throughout Scripture, God moved when His people prayed. Elijah prayed and fire fell from Heaven (1 Kings 18:37-38). Daniel prayed and lions could not devour him (Daniel 6:10, 22). The early church prayed and the building was shaken with the power of God (Acts 4:31). Jesus Himself often withdrew to pray because He understood the power found in communion with the Father (Luke 5:16).
Our nation desperately needs prayer today. Our homes need prayer. Our churches need prayer. Our schools, leaders, first responders, military, and communities need prayer. We cannot legislate revival, program revival, or entertain revival into existence — but we can pray for it. The National Day of Prayer reminds us that America’s greatest need is not political, financial, or social…our greatest need is spiritual.
Tomorrow, Thursday, believers from across Rowan County will gather together in unity for The National Day of Prayer, at Freedom Park across from Holbrook Drug Store on Main Street at noon. What a wonderful opportunity to stand together publicly and boldly for Jesus Christ and seek the face of God for our county, state, and nation.
Never underestimate what God can do through praying people. One prayer meeting can change a family. One prayer can break an addiction. One cry to Heaven can spark revival in a church or community. God still hears. God still answers. God still moves.
Tomorrow, let us not come casually, but expectantly. Let us pray with faith, humility, repentance, and boldness. And may Rowan County see that there is still a people who believe in the power of prayer.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
We come before You humbly in the mighty name of Jesus. Lord, forgive us where we have failed You and cleanse our hearts. Stir Your people to pray once again. Send revival to our churches, healing to our homes, and salvation to the lost. Bless the National Day of Prayer gathering tomorrow in Rowan County. Let Your presence be felt at Freedom Park, and let hearts be touched by the power of God. Protect our nation, guide our leaders, strengthen our first responders and military, and draw America back to You. Help us never to be ashamed to pray publicly and boldly for the cause of Christ.
We ask all these things in Jesus’ precious name.
Amen.

Many today are like the soldiers who crucified Jesus Christ on Mt. Calvary. Max Lucado says, we are, "So close to the timber yet so far from the blood . . . . So close to the cross but so far from Christ." Are you a child of God? Do you know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior? If not, please receive Him into your heart and life right now. Pray this simple prayer: "God be merciful to me a sinner, and save me for Christ sake. I believe that you died for me, and rose from the dead to forgive me of my sins. I am trusting you Lord Jesus to be my Savior."

If you are a Christian and in need of the victorious life; pray and tell the Lord your need. Confess your faults to Him, and rely on His power to make you victorious. He wants you to be victorious more than you want to be yourself. Through the power of the blood that Jesus Christ shed, you can live in victory! This brings glory to His great name.

If you would like to hear more about what the blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ can do for you and your family; join us this coming Sunday morning at Bluebank Church at 11:00 A.M. We hope to see you there.

So when we feel the walls closing in and life begins to overwhelm us, we must accept that we can become perplexed, but we must not despair. We may be clueless as to what is going on and totally at a loss as to what to do, but we must not curse God and turn to self. We cannot get to the point of despair. Despair is an accusation against a holy God that He is unjust and unfair, for it means that we believe that He is not worthy of our hope and trust. Christians need not despair because our God loves and cares for us. He may allow difficulty, but it is because He cares. He may not answer our prayers how we want, but it is because He knows better. He may bless somebody else more than us, but only because He loves us and has specific good and perfect gifts for us.

So how do we avoid depression? We get the spotlight off of us, we do what we don’t want to do, we believe what we don’t want to believe, and we love even when we don’t want to love. We give what we don’t have to give, we trust when we don’t have the faith, and we hope against all hope (Romans 4:18). Our God is faithful and He is our portion for each day (Lamentations 3:24). Even when we are faithless, God is faithful (2 Timothy 2:13). This is our hope.

If we find ourselves in depression, we must ask ourselves if we have lost faith. We must repent of any doubt, mistrust, resentment, self-preoccupation, or other sin. We must believe that God will bring us through because He loves us and because He is faithful. Even if circumstances confine us to our home or even bed, we can still have joy. Let us not let circumstances steal what only God can provide and what is rightfully ours as children of the Lord. When we feel our feet sinking and our strength failing us, may we let Psalm 40:2 be our comfort: "He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings." Stay safe and make it a great day!!!
