HEIR TO THE THRONE OF DAVID

(Old Testament Prophecy - Isaiah 9:7)

“His ever expanding peaceful government will never end. He will rule forever with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David. The passionate commitment of the Lord Almighty will guarantee this!”

(Fulfilled in Jesus - Luke 4:32)

“He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David.”

Thought:
Hundreds of years before Jesus was born, God spoke through the prophet Isaiah and affirmed His promise to King David that He would send a “forever” heir.

Prayer:
Jesus, thank You that Your kingdom is forever. You are the perfect King whose reign will never end. Your kingdom cannot be shaken or threatened. Help me to remember that my identity is found in Your perfect life, death, and resurrection, and that I am a citizen in Your eternal kingdom. Amen.

For the last 30 years or so, the mantra of our church, Johnson First Church of God has been “Jesus Is the Subject…” We have printed that phrase in our bulletin every week and we have tried to make sure that Jesus is the focus of all of our efforts and ministries of our church.
So, it only seemed right, as we have begun a new era at our church with the new church app and we have the capability to have a church blog, that we would use the title “Jesus Is the Subject…” for that blog. I will share with you daily devotionals that have to do with the life & ministry of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

As we begin this blog, I’m going to share with you a 40-day adventure called “Jesus Revealed…” These daily episodes will be 40 “messianic prophesies” that were written hundreds of years before Jesus was born. There are hundreds of messianic prophesies in the Bible. A prophecy describes a “prediction of the future, made under divine inspiration” or a “revelation of God. So, a messianic prophecy is a prediction about a “coming Messiah.”
The 39 books that make up the Old Testament of the Bible were written between 1450 - 430 B.C. They contain hundreds of prophesies about the Messiah who would arrive years later. The Messiah would come to deliver, save, and fulfill the promises made to the Jewish people and to all believers. These promises and prophesies also said that the Messiah would come to save all nations.
Each of the 40 days will begin with an Old Testament prophecy, then a New Testament scripture how Jesus fulfills that prophecy, followed by a short thought and a prayer. All Scriptures will be from the New Living Translation of the Bible. It is my prayer that this beginning 40-day adventure will bring us all closer to the Lord and strengthen our faith.
The journey begins tomorrow!

GOING FORWARD

“For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.” (Romans 1:16)

What’s Next?
We have been faithful to answer His call to “stand in the gap” on behalf of ourselves, our churches, and our nation. We have completed the 31 Days of Preparation through the book of Proverbs prior to battle. We have prayed and fasted as the Lord has led us as individuals. We stood firm, engaged the enemy, and brought praises, prayers, and petitions to the Throne of Grace for the last 50 days. Now what?
Hopefully, we have been drawn closer to our Lord through this process, are walking with a renewed spirit and refreshed heart now more full of faith, and are encouraged in the truth that prayer changes things.
As we move forward, let’s ask the Lord to show us precisely how He wants to continue to bring change not only to our individual lives, but to the lives of our families, our businesses, our churches, our schools, our communities and to all levels of leadership in our nation.
Let us truly become His people again, a people who reflect and resemble our gracious and forgiving Heavenly Father. Let’s offer the Lord our bodies as cleansed and useful vessels for His blessing, using our resources, both individually and corporately, to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our needy world. Let’s be a passionate people who are not just talking about, but actually living out the “good news,” as a testimony that speaks not only to our next-door neighbor, but reaches around the globe, impacting generations to come.
Let’s continue to keep our swords sharpened by committing to stay in the Word, choosing to follow its wisdom and direction as our moral compass instead of leaning on our own understanding. Let’s continue using our powerful weapon of prayer to bring about the changes He desires, both in our hearts as well as the hearts and lives of those we love.
As His eyes continue to search “to and fro throughout the whole earth” (2 Chronicles 16:9) looking to support those whose hearts are fully devoted to Him, may He see us, faithfully continuing to “stand in the gap.” May we continue to ask Him for renewal of our hearts, restoration of His place on the throne of our lives, and for revival in our land. If We Will…Then He Will!

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” (John 3:16-18)

Reading 50: Psalms 147-150 Facing the Future

“He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name.”
(Psalm 147:4)

We can tell ourselves that we are not afraid of the future. We can recite verse after verse telling us not to fear. We can remind ourselves that, regardless of what the future holds, our eternal destiny is secure. And yet, fear of the future can loom large when we see God allow a difficulty, sadness, or loss in someone else’s life. What if God calls us to suffer similar challenges, trials or tests? And fear can begin.
We tell ourselves that we just want to be ready in case the worst should happen. But what we are really trying to do is be God. We want to see into our future. Ultimately, what we are doing is entertaining the great deceiver, whose fearful whispering are intended not to warn and prepare, but instead to kill, steal, and destroy.
Our enemy wants to kill our dependence and our trust in God. He wants to steal our peace and our joy. He wants to destroy our witness by moving our focus from the God of Peace to the fear of potential circumstances.
How many times have we anticipated grief or braced for the worst, only to have it not happen? How much joy and peace have we forfeited? How productive for him, our enemy, but how counter-productive for us.
As we lift today’s Psalms of praise to our Almighty God, let’s remind ourselves that He counts the stars; He alone calls them all by name. Let’s rejoice that He already knows all our future, every single moment He has planned for each one of us until He welcomes us home. There is no place or need for fear.
In intercession, let’s stand firm in our faith, with our armor in place. Let’s raise our shield of faith, quench that fiery dart of fear and send it back to the pits of hell where it came from. Then let’s boldly march forward and reclaim surrendered territory, remembering it is all about Him, His purposes, His kingdom and His glory
