Saint Giles Episcopal Church is an affirming and inclusive parish without walls of our own, celebrating the Holy Eucharist in the beautiful chapel of Saint Mary’s College of California. Saint Giles exists to provide an Anglican spiritual community dedicated to nourishing individual ministry and witnessing to the ecumenical and universal dimensions of the Gospel. We provide community, pastoral care

, education, and fine liturgy for our members, and we reach out in service and hospitality beyond our parish family. Icon of Saint Giles by the Rev. Copyright © 2012, All Rights Reserved. Use without permission strictly prohibited.

A Day of Memories and Stories—October 22nd

Help us celebrate the life and ministries of St. Giles’ Church!

Each of us has a story to tell about St. Giles’, and on Sunday, October 22nd, each of us will have the opportunity to share their story.

How long have you been a part of St. Giles’?
Who are the saints of St. Giles’ who have gone before us?
What has St. Giles’ meant to you?
What memories of St. Giles’ are especially important to you?

We’ll begin the story-telling d emailuring the Eucharist, then continue during our legendary coffee hour. Everyone will have an opportunity to share… If you have photos, documents or other mementos to share, please bring them!

Want a Prayer Book or Hymnal?

We have enough 1979 Prayer Books and 1982 Hymnals for each member who wants one to take. We also have a small number of 1940 Hymnals and a few Bibles.

Beginning October 15th, we’ll pull the cart out and let you take what you want. Please take only one of each per person so that everyone who wishes can have one.

Jesus tells the disciples that every act of kindness, no matter how minor, is pleasing to God and does not go unnoticed. Have simple acts by others ever made a big difference in your life? What small acts of kindness do you engage in? How do they reflect your relationship with God?

Please Help Us Host the
Contra Costa Deanery Dinner & Meeting
At St. Anselm’s, Lafayette this Thursday, June 15th

Clergy and lay representatives of the 12 congregations in the Contra Costa Deanery of the Diocese will meet from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 15th a mere metaphoric stone’s throw from St. Giles’.

Mary-Jane Wood has put together a simple but tasty menu for our dinner, and we’ve had a good response to her requests for help with the preparation and the logistics of the evening. But we can always use more help! Please let Mary-Jane know that you’re available, and plan on joining us Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m.

This is a fund-raising opportunity for St. Giles’—we have an opportunity to take several hundred dollars with very little effort. But we need volunteers! We need folks to set up the room, register people and collect money, and help serve and clean up a simple meal. We also need volunteers to make green salad and fruit salad for the evening. Sign up on Sunday when Mary-Jane approaches you, or contact her at [email protected].

Our Gospel text includes what is often called the Great Commission from Jesus—to go and make disciples. What makes a person a disciple? What can churches do to encourage deeper discipleship?

The Second Sunday of Easter
Service at 9:00 a.m.
Guest Preacher and Celebrant: The Rev. Anne Cox Bailey

Dear St. Giles’ Members,

Thanks for a wonderful Easter Day! I’m still basking in the warm glow…
But remember that Easter is a season, not just one day. You have till Pentecost to exercise your "alleluia muscles."
Reminder—I’m away all this week and unavailable via both cell phone. Urgent church issues should be directed to Jean or Wayne.

In the Risen Christ,
Peter
