The first time I remember reading this parable (I mean REALLY reading it) as a young adult I got through verse 12 and thought to myself “Yes, I can identify with this prayer” (although I didn’t fast twice a week) …and then I read verse 13 and WOH!!  Even before I read Jesus’ explanation of the parable in verse 14, I was brought back immediately to earth by the tax collector’s prayer!  Although I knew we are all sinners, “…me, a sinner!’’ made me realize that I had gotten caught up in the list of the big stuff that the Pharisee rattled off and a little too full of myself.  I have never forgotten that, which is why this is one of my favorite parables told by our Savior.  One of many reminders in God’s word that we are saved by grace, not works.  God’s grace that was manifested in his sending his only son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for our sins.

Any local people want to help us out!   Our youth group is having a fundraiser this Sunday at FatBurger in Camarillo, just show them this flyer, order a food and FatBurger will donate 20%  to our CCC Youth Group which will help with our Winter Camp costs.
