We have a lot of planting to do! End your Memorial Day with us tonight from 6-8pm!

We will be planting potatoes, cucumbers, turnips, melons, pumpkins, carrots, swiss chard, ground cherries, zucchini, and peppers.

Hello Salem Gardeners!
We will be starting on Monday, May 4th at 6pm. Gardeners of all ages and abilities are welcome. No sign up. No cost.
Our first week will focus on cleaning up the garden space and getting it ready to plant, but we may get a few things in the ground too. We hope to see familiar faces and new ones too!

Good things are starting to sprout! Will you be growing with us at Salem Community Garden this summer? We are planning to meet on Monday evenings from 6-8pm again this year starting sometime in May, depending on the weather. Spread the word!

In 2024, we participated in the UMN Master Gardener Seed Trials. I was working on seed selection for our 2026 garden plan and discovered that they used a photo from our garden when sharing the results from that year.

Just in time for spring, Minnesota Master Gardeners have added new top performers to the results of more than 40 years of data-driven seed trials.

3470 pounds of food were grown and shared through the Salem Community Garden this season. The biggest producer was our zucchini and summer squash at 1020 lbs! Thanks to UMN Extension-Clay County Master Gardeners for your guidance in the garden and to NDSU Extension Master Gardeners for bringing some of our surplus to the food pantry.

Dinner idea from the community garden!
Chop up tomatoes and other veggies (here we have eggplant, peppers, onion, and a couple cloves of garlic) drizzle with olive oil and salt. Roast in a 400 degree oven until everything is soft and you start seeing brown bits here and there. Blend with fresh herbs, and additional salt to taste serve as a sauce with pasta or crusty bread. Eat it as a soup, you could add some beans, pasta and chopped spinach for a rich minestrone.

Hadeel is one of our superstar gardeners. She brought home this gargantuan turnip to pair with some of our beets for her famous pickles. This turnip was seriously the size of a kid's head.
