First Christian Church, Mooresville Indiana

First Christian Church, Mooresville Indiana First Christian Church in Mooresville is a Disciples of Christ congregation open to all. Worship is Sunday 10:30am
Study (all ages) is Sunday 9:00 am

We are a congregation that does not claim to have answers but encourages each person through living in community, discussion, study, and prayer to listen for what God is calling them to do and be. Our answers don't look the same - and that is as it should be. We are all in different places on this journey. Our hope is to accompany one another with grace and support. And our welcome is inclusive - for all regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, health or socio-economic status.

Forgiveness is not pretending the hurt did not happen.

It is not excusing harmful behavior, abandoning healthy boundaries, or automatically restoring a relationship. Reconciliation requires honesty, repentance, and the rebuilding of trust.

Forgiveness can begin with the willingness to place the wound in God’s hands and refuse to let another person’s actions have the final word in our lives.

“Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.” — Colossians 3:13, NRSV

Wendell Berry was a gift to so many of us.

All that I serve will die, all my delights,
the flesh kindled from my flesh, garden and field,
the silent lilies standing in the woods,
the woods, the hill, the whole earth, all
will burn in man's evil, or dwindle
in its own age. Let the world bring on me
the sleep of darkness without stars, so I may know
my little light taken from me into the seed
of the beginning and the end, so I may bow
to mystery, and take my stand on the earth
like a tree in a field, passing without haste
or regret toward what will be, my life
a patient willing descent into the grass.

Artistic Afternoons: Draw a body map of your grief today. Not what you think grief should feel like, but when *you* bring up a particular loss, how do you experience that grief in your body? Are there tears welling up? Do you feel it in your chest, your throat? Does it feel spinny or tangled or raw?

First, draw the outline of your body. Then, call to mind a grief that you know you still carry (because there have been *so* many losses, haven’t there?), and let the body feel of it emerge. Notice if it feels like a particular texture or color, or even image showing up in your body. What’s there? Draw anything you are sensing onto your body map. Even if it’s a twinge in your knee, or a hitch in your breath, or a spasming eyelid – notice, and record it onto your map.

After you’ve marked down whatever is there, take a look at your map. *This* is the experience of grief, today. Whatever “stage” you find yourself in (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance…), let this be a picture of your experience of grief in this moment. See God looking at it, too—looking at those things you’ve marked (on the page, turning toward your embodied self) with the eyes of Love.
