Celebrate Recovery Inside Prisons Fresh Start Celebrate Recovery Inside (jails and prisons) is a Christ-centered 12 step program. That way is through the real Higher Power, Jesus Christ.

Fresh Start has volunteers that go inside three women’s and six men’s correctional centers. There is a way out of prison that leads to real life change and a way to break out of the revolving door of correctional facilities. Many of the anonymous programs are specific to one area such as alcoholism, drugs, gambling, etc. Celebrate Recovery is a biblical Christ-centered tool that focuses the Power of Christ in every area of life’s hurts, habits and hang-ups.

People can deny Christ, dispute Scripture and ignore prophecy, but they cannot deny, dispute or ignore God's transformational power in a person's life. Our stories of pain, adversity and overcoming in Christ are meant to serve as a testimony of God's faithfulness and power, evidence that God really can take what the devil meant for evil and use it for good.

I've since learned it is always God's desire for us to go and share our stories, whether we want to or not.

God never wastes our hurts and pain. God plans for us to have great purpose and a beautiful future for all who believe in Him. Not despite our past, but because of it.

Our CR & Lawnchairs guest speaker this year is Melvin Battiest who is an enrolled member of the Muskogee (Creek) tribe of Oklahoma and the co-founder and Executive Director of Native Wings Like An Eagle Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in Yukon, Oklahoma. Melvin served 38 years of a life sentence incarcerated within the Oklahoma department of corrections. While incarcerated, he founded Native Americans In Christ (NAIC) “Wings like an eagle” ministry and this ministry has several chapters active to this day. Since his release in November of 2021, Mr. Battiest and his wife Tammeria have founded his nonprofit organization that will collaborate and partner with the federally recognized tribes in Oklahoma to provide reintegration services to enrolled tribal members who live outside any reservation boundary in Oklahoma. This service is called “Off The Rez” reintegration services and is currently gaining plenty of tribal support. Melvin also ministers to men and women at various facilities throughout the state.
