Just Pondering Today.
Some of you take time to contemplate; some are prolific; others prolificate, but me, I just ponder.
2 Corinthians 3:2-3
2 You are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read by all men;
3 being manifested that you are a letter of Christ, cared for by us,
written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God,
not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
You are a letter, known and read by all men.
Scripture makes it clear that our lives are open books.
Open books for all to read.
Our obedience, our diligence, our sacrifices, our faithfulness
are all written down in plain sight for all to read on a daily basis.
They are written down on the tablets of our hearts.
So today as I ponder this troubling thought I ask the question,
“Which spirit is writing on your heart today, and what is he writing?”
Is your obedience and diligence directed and aimed at putting life, business, ranching, farming, work, kids, parents, pleasure or whatever else you fill the blank with first?
What is being written in your book then is being written by the spirit of this world, or your own fleshly desires. Because it is plain to see in everyone’s book what motivates them most. People will always sacrifice their time and energy to do what they really want to do most. Always! You can see it written plainly on the pages of their open book. People are faithful to what they believe in. What they trust most. Therefore, it does not matter what we say we believe. Everyone reads our testimony because our lives are open books.
On the other hand, when our obedience and diligence is plainly seen by others as being a life that is faithful to Christ filled with sacrificial living then our testimony becomes powerful and life changing for us, and for those who are reading our book. Because it is the Holy Spirit that’s writing on the pages of your book.
Examples: We get our children up every morning to go to school. We are writing on that child’s heart that an education is important, and anything less will not be tolerated. So, the child accepts that as truth and sooner or later they begin making choices around the type of education and careers, that suit them based on what has been written on their hearts by you and others.
We get our children up every Sunday and get them ready for church. We are writing on that child’s heart that church, fellowship, and a relationship with their Savior is the most important thing in their life.
If we allow everything else to take precedence, be it ranching, farming, work, pleasure, or family issues. Then we are writing on that child’s heart that God is not all that important. Even if we say and believe we are teaching them about serving a loving Savior our actions are writing on their hearts that He is not all that important and it’s ok to do what you want because He will always be their when you need Him. Then we cry and wring our hands when they grow up and don’t want anything to do with you, your church, or this Jesus that you say is a Savior. What we have done is allow the spirit of this world write his lies on their hearts.
So again, “Which Spirit is writing on your heart today?” “Which Spirit is writing on the heart of your children?” Remember our lives are open books for all the see.
