Pleasantdale is trying out a new feature for the fourth Sunday of the month called "Community Spotlight".
We will be attempting to connect more with our community partners who share our mission to improve life in various ways, alternating serious subjects with inviting some area gospel music groups to inspire and entertain the congregation and visitors.
On Sept. 28, the first community partner who spoke to us was Linda Wilk, executive director of Hands of Hope, a division of Radiant Health, Marion and Hartford City.
Hands of Hope provides 24-hour, 7-day-a-week assistance and options in person or by phone to those suffering from domestic violence, sexual violence or stalking in Grant, Wabash and now Blackford County, as well as distributing educational literature about these often hidden problems that affect all of us in one way or another.
Linda, a Nebraska native and Lutheran who was a crime news reporter for the Marion Chronicle Tribune for several years, said she decided she wanted to try to make a difference for the victims, not just report about them, getting involved with advocacy.
Anyone in Blackford County can call Hands of Hope on the 24-hour helpline at 765-664-0701 for immediate assistance by phone or by an advocate in person, Linda said, adding that the Radiant Health office in the former Blackford County Hospital is looking for a program coordinator.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, with the theme “With Survivors, Always,” and Oct. 12 is recognized as Domestic Violence Survivor's Day.
