Someone recently asked me why I keep writing music and books?
“You know you’ll probably never make any money doing this, right?”
I thought about that question. And the truth is, they may be right. But they misunderstood why I write.
I don’t write because I think there’s a fortune waiting for me at the end of a song, or a book. I write because there’s something inside me that needs to be said.
I write because I’m passionate about Jesus and what He has done for me in my life! And hopefully, somehow I can help or show someone they can have the same, or better relationship with Jesus as well.
I write because somewhere, someone may be hurting, searching, discouraged, or wondering if God has forgotten them—and maybe one little song, or paragraph can find them at just the right moment.
If one song changes one life, it was worth every minute I spent writing it. If one chapter becomes a reference point of hope, then it was worth the effort!
Jesus said, “Go and tell.”
I’ve preached the Gospel from a pulpit. I’ve written it in books. And now I’m putting it into songs.
Will millions of people ever hear them? I don’t know.
But that’s really not my assignment.
My assignment is to write them. My assignment is to release them and plant a seed, that will take root and grow. My assignment is the same as all those who read Matthew 28 and that is to go and tell.
What God does with them after that is up to Him.
And that is why I write.
