What ropes are you wearing today? In Judges 15, we see Samson consumed by self-preservation, self-promotion, and self-pity -- a man of supernatural strength completely enslaved to the God of self. His anger destroyed everything around him, and his victories became monuments to himself rather than to God.

The sobering truth is that Samson's greatest enemy was not the Philistines. It was self. And the same is true for us. When self sits on the throne of our hearts, even our anger, our victories, and our prayers become opportunities to exalt ourselves rather than God.

But here is the good news. When the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon Samson, those ropes melted off his hands. Jesus said it plainly in John 8:34-36 -- everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin, but if the Son sets you free, you are free indeed. No matter how bound you feel today, freedom is available at the cross.

The story of Samson is a mirror. Gifted, called, and set apart by God — yet consumed by the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. Sound familiar? It should. Because his story is our story.

This week at Taylor Road, we walked through Judges 14 and saw how compromise leads to comfortability, and comfortability leads to callousness. Sin always takes you further than you wanted to go, keeps you longer than you wanted to stay, and costs you more than you wanted to pay.

But here is the good news. Where Samson failed, Jesus prevailed. He faced every temptation and conquered it, then took our sin to the cross so we would not have to carry it alone. What sin breaks, Jesus heals.

If your life feels broken today, the offer of forgiveness and restoration still stands. Come to Jesus.

What starts with so much promise can quickly become a downward spiral when we choose what is "right in our own eyes" over what God has called us to. This week, we continued our journey through the book of Judges, examining the tragic life of Samson and the warning his story holds for each of us.

Samson's story reveals three traps that still ensnare us today: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life (1 John 2:15-16). Yet even in the middle of Samson's mess, God remained sovereign. What we meant for selfish gain, God bent toward His glory.

Here is the good news. Where Samson failed, Jesus overcame. He faced every temptation and conquered sin on our behalf. What sin breaks, Jesus heals. It is not too late to bring your brokenness to Him and receive forgiveness, restoration, and new life.
