Cherry tomatoes that were just planted have come to fruition. Potato plants are blooming and producing tubers. A fruitless lemon tree suddenly has fruit. The limes will soon be ready. Even the orange tree is showing new growth and getting ready to develop fruit.
The garden reminds me of life in Christ. There is new life when seeds are planted and watered and they prepare for harvest. A long time believer who failed to bear fruit gets fertilized and placed fully in the sonlight only to develop new growth and begin to bear fruit. Some believers are like plants that allow their leaves to shrivel and are ready to die but with the right touch, the right care, a little pruning, new enriched soil, they spring back to life.
Is your faith struggling? Are you missing out on the sonlight, fertile soil, nurturing, and care? It could be time to get planted in the right soil, in a bigger pot, trim off the old life and allow the new life in Christ to flourish. It is time for frequent watering and regular feeding. It is time to remove the weeds from your garden beds.
Return to Christ, read your Bible, get in fellowship with the right church and small group, tend your garden to keep it healthy and help others better tend their garden.
Matthew 13:3b - 9
“Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seeds. As he scattered them across his field, some seeds fell on a footpath, and the birds came and ate them. Other seeds fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The seeds sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow. But the plants soon wilted under the hot sun, and since they didn’t have deep roots, they died. Other seeds fell among thorns that grew up and choked out the tender plants. Still other seeds fell on fertile soil, and they produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted! Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.”
