IT’S OFFICIAL 🎉
BETHEL CEMETERY IS A HISTORIC TEXAS CEMETERY!

We are incredibly proud to share that the Texas Historical Commission has officially designated Bethel Cemetery as a Historic Texas Cemetery.

From the Texas Historical Commission:

“The Texas Historical Commission is honored to designate Bethel Cemetery as a Historical Texas Cemetery. The enclosed certificate is testament to your commitment to the preservation of this important historic resource.

This Historical Texas Cemetery designation is an official recognition of family and community graveyards that encourages preservation of historic cemeteries. This also records the cemetery location and boundaries in the Montgomery County deed records as historically dedicated and worthy of preservation.”

For generations, families of the Bethel community have cared for and preserved the history of those who came before us. What they protected generation after generation, is now officially recognized and recorded as an important piece of Texas history.

We are grateful for everyone, past and present, who has cared for Bethel Cemetery and for those who worked to make this designation possible.

Our next goal is the Official Texas Historical Marker, which will help tell the story of Bethel Cemetery, the early Bethel community and the generations laid to rest here.

We would like to thank Dangerous Tree Removal Company out of Splendora for working with us to take out the dead top of a large oak tree on the west fence and cutting down the dead tree that was leaning over the west driveway loop in the cemetery.

We greatly appreciate our members who continue to contribute financially for the care and maintenance of Bethel Cemetery. Your donations make it all possible 🤍

Cemetery Care & Maintenance Update

We love our trees at Bethel Cemetery but sometimes they bring challenges. When the weather started warming up, we got to work clearing and cleaning fence line to remove debris and damaged fencing.

The rains have hindered us a bit for tractor work to level the ground in preparation for new fencing but we hate to complain about the rain.

Thank you to our volunteers who give their time and hard work to help with projects like this and a special thank you to everyone who donates. You monetary contributions make it possible for us to continue our mission: to maintain and preserve Bethel Cemetery, provide perpetual care, and honor the families and community it serves.

It was a beautiful day for our volunteers to place flags in honor of the 71 veterans interred at Bethel Cemetery for the upcoming Memorial Day holiday. Flags will remain out over the next several weeks. Bethel Cemetery Association is honored to care for and recognize those who served and sacrificed for our great nation. 🤍🇺🇸

Today we honor our law enforcement officers, past and present, who have answered the call to serve with courage, integrity, and sacrifice.

At Bethel Cemetery, we remember and honor those who served and now rest here, along with the families who carry their legacy forward. We are deeply grateful to the men and women in law enforcement, and to their loved ones who stand beside them.💙

Today, we pause to honor the lives lost on December 7, 1941, a day that forever changed the course of history. We remember the brave men and women who paid the ultimate price at Pearl Harbor, and we honor those who stepped forward in the days that followed to defend freedom. Many World War II veterans are buried here at Bethel Cemetery.

Pearl Harbor was a moment of great tragedy, but it also became a defining moment of unity. In the face of fear and uncertainty, Americans stood shoulder to shoulder, neighbor with neighbor, community with community to answer the call with courage, resilience, and resolve 🇺🇸
