Lib Cain transferred her membership to The Church Triumphant on Friday, January 22, 2021. In my time at Whitfield UMC, Lib was a good friend and a joy to spend time with. She cooked, taught, helped, and loved all of us at Whitfield - and beyond - with what often seemed to be unbelievable energy and strength. Her heart and soul were much too large for her diminutive stature, and now her body, so often attacked by bouts of illness and injury, is as strong as the Godly faith she lived. Sweet rest, Lib. Thank you for helping to make us better.

The Alabama-West Florida Conference has called for 24 days of prayer in solidarity with people of color in our nation. A calendar is provided below to help us all pray with unity and focus.

"I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth."
(Psalm 121:1-2)

Thank you all for participating in yesterday's 24-hour prayer vigil.

Today begins our 24 days of prayer. As we stand in solidarity with people of color, we will specifically pray in the coming days based on the topics listed in the calendar. We also are asking people to do virtual prayer walks on their own or with a small group.

As the U.S. and countries around the world have raised their voices to cry out against injustice over the last couple of weeks, we as Whitfield UMC have taken the time to listen to what is being said by so many. We believe, unequivocally, that black lives matter. Following wise words from Bishop Graves, may we as a community continue to listen, pray, and shine the light of Jesus upon the darkness of racism. A brief excerpt:

"I am asking all people in the Alabama-West Florida Conference to listen and stand in solidarity with people of color! Make no mistake that all lives will in fact matter when black lives matter."

🎶 I never can say goodbye...🎶 Thank you, Whitfield UMC, for the privilege of working in ministry with you for 10+ years. It's time to move on, but I'll carry these wonderful servants in my heart always. (Except for the little piece of my heart that I'll leave with them.)
