Honored to have spoken at the 2024 Carolina’s Youth Mentoring Symposium organized by the Youth Mentoring Collaborative! 🎤 As a High School Youth Mentor with Summer Search, I’ve witnessed firsthand the transformative power of mentorship in helping young people unlock their full potential. It was inspiring to be part of an event that brought together passionate individuals committed to supporting our youth and shaping their futures.

Grateful for the connections made with fellow mentors and youth advocates, and for the opportunity to continue the important work of fostering community, advocacy, and meaningful relationships.

"In the deafening silence of Christian neutrality, we must unleash the thunderous force of transformative, unwavering justice, resonating with the impassioned cries of the oppressed, akin to God's response to Abel's blood and the cries of the Israelites in Exodus. Transformative justice demands human engagement, recognizing the sacred tapestry of communal existence. Mere rhetoric on transformative justice is futile; action is the mandate. Justice imposed from above is predatory, yet justice born from the voices, agonies, and resilience of the people heralds true transformation."

Thrilled to have been amongst activist and medical professionals urging the city and the state to address the challenges we are facing during this pandemic. We must do everything to protect the health of our residents and in doing so also address the housing injustices, racial injustices, and economic injustices which impacted our black and brown communities in disproportionate rates. The pandemic is not over and the way through is TOGETHER!

Images from this past weeks Haitian Unity Parade where I had the pleasure of meeting with various community leaders and organizers!

We had such an amazing time distributing books to the children alongside gift cards and fresh fruit to families. It was phenomenal to see the love, support, and joy shared amongst our Haitian brothers and sisters.

Shoutout to Ameina Mosley for partnering with me for this work and for taking these great pictures!

It was a pleasure meeting and conversing with the Mayor of Selma James Perkins Jr. during the a outdoor screening of “Turning 15 on The Road to Freedom”.

It was such a phenomenal play and it was great to hear directly from Lynda Blackmon Lowery author of the memoir from which the play is inspired by.

As the youngest marcher in the 1965 voting rights march from Selma to Montgomery, Albama, Lynda Blackmon Lowery proved that young adults can be heroes. Jailed nine times before her fifteenth birthday, Lowery fought alongside Martin Luther King, Jr. for the rights of African-Americans.

In this memoir and play adaptation, she shows today's young leaders what it means to fight nonviolently (even when the police are using violence, as in the Bloody Sunday protest) and how it felt to be part of changing American history.

Joined Black Voters Matter today as they lead us in honoring the Selma-to-Montgomery march by rallying for voting rights.

We walked in the footsteps of great activists like John Lewis, Amelia Boyton, Hosea Williams, Linda Blackmon Lowery, and Martin Luther King Jr.

Grateful to have visited The National Memorial for Peace and Justice during this trip to Montgomery.

Viewing the memorial and the names of the more than 4,400 African American men, women, and children who were hanged, burned alive, shot, drowned, and beaten to death by white mobs between 1877 and 1950 has profoundly impacted me.

On the six-acre site atop a rise overlooking Montgomery, the national lynching memorial is a sacred space for truth-telling and reflection about racial terror in America and its legacy.

Honored to have had the opportunity to participate today in the 57th Selma Bridge Crossing, and follow along the footsteps of the social justice giants who’ve paved the way for all of us.

This experience has been one that I will forever be marked by, and my desire is to be an active participant in the work started by the countless men, women, and children who so bravely crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge 57 years ago.

Had some time this afternoon to visit the home of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Dexter Avenue in Montgomery, Alabama.

While serving as pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church (1954 - 1960), Dr. King began his quest for Civil Rights and organized the Montgomery Bus Boycott. This was the home in which Dr. King and his family lived, and the home was damaged as a result of a bomb blast on January 31, 1956.

Spent some time this afternoon attending a community screening of the documentary “A Reckoning in Boston” which focuses on the deep racial history between black and white communities within the city of Boston.

After the screening we heard directly from Co-producer, Kafi Dixon, founder of Common Good Cooperatives, as we discussed the role of Black Churches and spirituality as sites of resistance and joy in communities.

Huge thanks to UniteBoston, in conjunction with The Table Dorchester, Neighborhood Church of Dorchester and Second Church in Dorchester for putting together this event.
