All are welcome
Holy Week — Thursday
The day of surrender.
Jesus gathered with His disciples to celebrate Passover. A meal remembering how God delivered His people.
But this night… He became the deliverance.
He took the bread. Broke it. “This is My body… given for you.” He took the cup. “This is My blood… poured out for many.”
What had always been a symbol… was now standing in front of them.
Then the King of Kings did something unexpected.
He got up from the table… wrapped a towel around His waist… and began washing His disciples’ feet. The lowest position.
Even Judas’. The one He knew would betray Him.
Then He said: “Love one another as I have loved you.” Not easy love. Sacrificial love.
But the weight of the night was building. Jesus revealed that one of them would betray Him.
Then they went to the garden. Gethsemane.
“Father… if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not My will… but Yours be done.”
He was overwhelmed. Grieved. Yet fully surrendered.
While He was praying… the disciples were sleeping. While He was surrendering… they couldn’t stay awake.
Then the moment came. Judas returned. And betrayed Jesus with a kiss.
Peter drew his sword… cut off the ear of the high priest’s servant. But Jesus stopped him. “No more of this.” And He healed the man’s ear.
Even in betrayal… He chose restoration over retaliation.
Jesus was arrested… and led away.
Standing before the high priests, He was questioned… mocked…beaten…
And while this was happening… Peter followed.
The one who said, “I will never deny You…” denied knowing Jesus three times. And then the rooster crowed.
In one night… Communion. Worship. Surrender. Betrayal. Fear. Failure. And it all still speaks to us.
Because we’ve all been at that table.
We’ve all been served by Him.
And if we’re honest…we’ve all had moments like Peter too. Moments of bold faith…followed by quiet compromise.
Thursday reminds us:
Jesus knew. The betrayal. The denial. The failure.
And despite it all … He still chose the cross.
So the question is, when we are faced with a choice… Do we fight in our own strength? Do we deny Him when it costs something? Or do we surrender?
“Not my will… but Yours be done.”
