In July 2015, a white Georgia couple targeted a Black family during a child's birthday party in Douglasville, repeatedly driving past the home waving Confederate flags, shouting racial slurs, and making armed death threats toward those in attendance. The attack was later ruled a hate crime by a judge. In 2017, Joe Torres was sentenced to 20 years in prison, and Kyla Norton received a 15 year sentence.
