Tonight is the Great Vigil of Easter, and we need to be together, now more than ever.
We imagine how Jesus' disciples felt on this night. Reeling from his gruesome death the day before, they probably did not sleep. Instead, they likely sat awake together and shared stories, hopes, fears, and plans. Maybe they cried, maybe they sat in stunned silence. Maybe they found comfort lighting a candle together.
They were afraid for their future, and they sat together. They were worried about what the world's leaders might do, and they sat together. They were deep in grief, and they sat together. They remembered and hoped for God's promised resurrection. And they sat and waited. Together.
Does that sound like it could be us, today? It needs to be us.
Tonight, we need you more than ever. We are a community called to remember what it means to wait for God's promises. We are scared. We are hopeful. We are hurt and lonely and anxious. We need to be together.
Don't wait for Easter Sunday. Tonight, at 7:30 at 9801 Centerway Road, we gather and do as the disciples did. Come and see.
