Welcome to the start of our Christmas in June campaign for the Montezuma Christian Church "MCC Christmas Room".
This is also part of the MCC FREE Clothing Closet-Montezuma Indiana through MCC.
For those who don't know what this ministry is all about, I am sharing the "public blurb" that's both posted and sent out for anyone requesting info about this ministry who'd like to consider supporting it through prayer, finanacial contributions or volunteer hours.
MCC Christmas Room
Have you ever had a literal dream about something and then made it come true with the help of others? That is how this Ministry started in 2016. I had a dream about people in a room “shopping” for Christmas items but never paying anything for them, complete with a place to wrap those gifts.
In 2016 the MCC Christmas Room became more than just a dream, this event is part of the MCC FREE Clothing Closet Ministry. That first year we gave out 276 gifts, in most recent years that number has climbed to over 2300 gifts, we expect the number to keep growing.
The Christmas Room is open for one day, the first Saturday in December at Montezuma Christian Church. This room is open to anyone from Parke, Vermillion and Vigo counties (and surrounding areas) who can use a little extra help at Christmas time.
No income verification is needed, and many who attend, this is the only Christmas they can provide for their families. Items are new, with a few gently used larger items, that are offered in this room.
The gift items are separated into ages/genders for infants thru adults. Our hope is that families can come and get a few things to help take some stress out of holiday gifting. We wanted to make sure that Children were also able to “shop” for gifts for their siblings or parents since that isn't always something everyone can afford.
Each attendee can select up to 4 items for their family. There are no exceptions to this number limit no matter the family size. We do not accept vouchers from any other entity/organization.
There is a numbering system to keep the line fair and those in line will be waiting outside for a time and then inside our building where it is warm and comfortable.
A gift-wrapping station (complete with volunteers) is available for those who wish to have some help wrapping those items for under their tree.
Volunteers for this event can always be used and items being collected include NEW toys/games/household items for infants-teens and men's/ladies’ items as well.
We are extremely picky about the quality of any gently used “high ticket” items we offer for this event so those will be available on a VERY limited basis.
All items offered at the Christmas room have at least a $5.00 retail value but range from $5-$10 each. If NEW items are donated that have a lesser value they will be bundled or made into gift sets.
We are estimating a need of an inventory of 2500 items for this years expected crowd.
If you'd like to offer support as part of our MCC CHRISTMAS IN JUNE CAMPAIGN here are some ways you can help:
1. PRAY for this minsitry, PRAY for the families who are struggling right now, PRAY about volunteers who are able to assist the day of and during set up. PRAY for our community continually.
2. Simply share our posts and info, help spread the word about the help we're offering and also spreading the word about the support we need. When it's closer to time share our event with someone you know in need.
Share any fundraising efforts you may see us doing in the future.
