Faith isn't about making excuses for everything or declaring that anything goes.

But calling something “sinful” doesn't end the conversation. We still have to ask how we understand Scripture, what principles guide our interpretation, and whether we are treating people with the justice and dignity Scripture calls us to.

Sometimes the most important questions aren't about what we believe, but why we believe it.

Faith doesn't have to fear honest questions.

We can take the historical evidence seriously while also recognizing that history and theology ask different kinds of questions. The existence of Jesus is a historical question; what we believe about who Jesus was and what his life means is a question of faith.

There is room for both thoughtful inquiry and genuine faith.

Many churches say, “All are welcome.” But we also know that being told you’re welcome and truly feeling welcomed can be two very different things. At Montevallo Presbyterian Church, we want you to know that when we say that all are welcome, we mean it.

Faith isn't something we leave at the church door.

What we believe shapes how we respond to poverty, exclusion, violence, injustice, and power. These aren't distractions from faith—they are deeply connected to the biblical call to love God and love our neighbors.

We may disagree about politics. But we can still ask what our faith calls us to do in the world. And yes, we can find common ground in the things that matter most, even when our political loyalties take us in different directions.

We all interpret the Bible. The question isn't whether we interpret Scripture, but how, and what values guide our interpretation.

Instead of accusing one another of “picking and choosing,” perhaps we could have the more honest conversation: What do we bring with us when we read Scripture, and how does that shape what we see?

There’s room for questions, humility, and grace in that conversation.

ALL SHALL BE WELL

In a world that can sometimes feel fractured, uncertain, and overwhelmed by suffering, there are still moments of kindness. There is still compassion. There is still beauty. There are still people who choose to care for one another.
