Why Would a Loving God Send People to Hell???

A lot of people wonder, “If God is loving, why would He send anyone to hell?”

Jesus talked more about hell than anyone else in the Bible, not to scare people, but because love tells the truth.

Hell is not a cartoon. It's the real, eternal consequence of saying “no” to God and living life our own way.

But the same God who warns us about hell also says, “I do not want you to die… Turn back and live!” (Ezekiel 18:32 NLT).

That's why the cross matters so much.

On the cross, Jesus stepped into the judgment you and I deserve so we wouldn't have to spend eternity separated from God.

The question is not just, “How could a loving God send anyone to hell?”

Maybe the better question is, “How could we reject a loving God who allowed His Son to go to the cross to keep us from hell?”

👉 Today’s devo is honest about hell and clear about hope.

Father, I don’t want a soft, made‑up version of You. I want the whole truth. Jesus, thank You for talking honestly about hell and about hope. Holy Spirit, tear down my excuses and help me see both the seriousness of sin and the greatness of grace. In Jesus’ powerful and precious name. Amen.

If You Died Tonight, Would You Be Ready?

If your heart stopped beating in your sleep tonight and you woke up in eternity, where would you be?

Not, “Did you go to church growing up?”
Not, “Are you better than most people?”
Not, "I'm a good person."

The Bible says, “Each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment” (Hebrews 9:27 NLT).

You will die!
You will stand before God!
You will not get a do‑over!

Being “good” is not enough.
Being “spiritual” is not enough.
Being “going to church” is not enough.

We're all born spiritually dead in our sins. We can't save ourselves. That's why Jesus came, lived the perfect life we can never live, died the death we deserve, and rose again.

If you died tonight, the only safe place to be is in Christ.

👉 Today’s devo walks you through what that really means.

Father, eternity feels far away until it doesn’t. Wake me up today. Jesus, thank You for dying in my place. Holy Spirit, shake my heart out of autopilot and help me hear You clearly. In Jesus’ powerful and precious name. Amen.

Do you really want God, or just His help?

After the golden calf, God offered Israel the land, the blessings, the victory, but said He wouldn't go with them.

Moses refused. He prayed, “If You don't personally go with us, please don't make us leave this place.”

That's the heart check for us this weekend.

👉 Am I more hungry for God’s gifts, or for God Himself?

Father, thank You that You offer more than quick fixes; You offer Yourself. Jesus, thank You for opening the way for me to live in our Father’s presence. Holy Spirit, stir a fresh hunger in me, not just for what God can do, but for who He is. In Jesus’ powerful and precious name. Amen.

Most idols in Monterey don't look like statues.

In Exodus 32, the people didn't stop worshiping, they just attached God’s name to something He never approved. They built a god they could see, touch, and control.

Sadly, we still do that!

An idol is anything or anyone we chase or trust to give us what only God can give, comfort, control, security, identity.

Today’s devo asks a hard, honest question.

👉 Am I building a golden calf in my life?

Father, open my eyes to any idols I am quietly building in my life. Jesus, thank You for loving me enough to confront what’s pulling my heart away from You. Holy Spirit, shine Your light and give me the courage to lay my golden calves down. In Jesus’ powerful and precious name. Amen.

When God feels slow, our hearts get loud.

In Exodus 32, the people got tired of waiting on God, so they said, “Make us some gods who can lead us.” Waiting did not create their unbelief, it exposed it... and the same thing happens to us.

When God seems silent, we start reaching for something we can see and control, a plan B, a shortcut, a golden calf.

Today’s devo is a gentle heart check.

👉 What's your waiting revealing about who or what you really trust?

Father, You see me waiting and You see my restless heart. Jesus, thank You for loving me even when I get impatient and grab for control. Holy Spirit, show me what my waiting is really revealing and lead me to trust. In Jesus’ powerful and precious name. Amen.

Jesus didn’t open the prison door so we’d keep decorating the cell.

Galatians 5:1 says, “So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.”

So how do we actually live free?

Name the chain.
Bring it into the light.
Replace the lie with truth.
Starve the old pattern.
Ask Holy Spirit for help in the moment.
Stay connected to God’s people.

Freedom in Christ is received by grace, but it’s lived out through daily surrender and Spirit-led obedience. Old chains may still call your name, but they don’t get to own you anymore.

Walk free today in the power and strength of Holy Spirit.

Father, thank You that freedom in Christ isn’t just something we talk about, it’s something You call us and enable us to live. Yesterday, we remembered the cost of freedom. Today, we need to ask a deeper question. What kind of freedom did Jesus actually give us?

John 8:36 says, “So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.”

The world says freedom means doing whatever I want. But Jesus says real freedom is being set free from what’s been destroying me.

Free from sin’s penalty. Free from sin’s power. Free from shame, fear, guilt, old labels, secret habits, and spiritual death.

Jesus didn’t die and rise again so we could decorate our chains and call them choices. He came to set us free. And whoever Jesus sets free is free indeed.

Father, thank You for every freedom we’re able to enjoy, but most of all, thank You for the eternal freedom You’ve given us through Jesus. Holy Spirit, open my eyes today and show me where I’m still living chained to things Jesus already set me free from. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Memorial Day is more than a day off.

Today, we remember real people who gave real lives.

Real families still carry real grief. Somebody’s son didn’t come home. Somebody’s daughter didn’t come home. Somebody’s husband, wife, daddy, mama, brother, sister, or friend gave everything.

That ought to make us slow down. It ought to make us grateful. It ought to make us humble.

John 15:13 says, “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

As followers of Jesus, we honor the fallen, pray for the grieving, and lift our eyes to the greatest sacrifice of all. Only Jesus saves. Only Jesus forgives sin. Only Jesus defeats death. Only Jesus brings eternal freedom.

Today, don’t just remember the cost. Live like you remember. Let gratitude become worship. Let remembrance become obedience. Let freedom make you faithful.
