Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, Western American Area

Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, Western American Area Welcome to the California and México Area of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary The gospel of Jesus has brought us over oceans, and across continents.

Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary are women called to belong totally and unreservedly to God in prayer, action, and community. Since our founding in 1849, our mission to know and love God, to make God known and loved, has been continuously deepened and transformed. Whether in classrooms in Zambia, favelas in Brazil, or conference rooms of the United Nations Headquarters in New York, our call i

s to give and receive life, especially in those situations where life is denied, devalued or diminished. Empowerment of women and children is a focus that unites us in thirteen different countries: Brazil, England, France, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Mozambique, Portugal, Scotland, USA, Wales, Zambia, Zimbabwe. The gift of our life together as communities of faith in diverse cultures heightens a sense of God’s presence and goodness in all the earth. Open to the unexpected ways of the Spirit, we respect the diversity of belief throughout the world, and seek to collaborate with all who strive for peace and justice. The human family is awakening to an urgent call to turn from violence and greed to care for one another and to preserve the earth’s resources. The history and spirit of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary resonate with this call. As we live into the future, our vision transcends narrow limits, moving toward that horizon where the mystery of God unfolds. Our family is at once distant and near. Both the neighbor in need today and generations yet to come are dear to us. Trusting in God’s abundant love, we follow the dream of Jesus THAT ALL MAY HAVE LIFE AND HAVE IT TO THE FULL. We invite you to watch our “Spirit of the RSHM” video series featuring several of our Sisters sharing and reflecting on their calling to serve as a Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary.

UN SG's Message for the International Day for Countering Hate Speech |
June 18 2026

Hate speech is the first step down the path of dehumanization, a path that leads all too frequently to violence, conflict, and atrocity crimes. It is a tool of division targeting specific groups – including women, migrants, refugees, LGBTQIA+ people, persons with disabilities and many other minorities – often for political gain.

From our Institute RSCM RSHM:

MARY CONTINUALLY POINTS US TO HER SON
We are inspired by Mary to live as women of faith and hope in our world today. We carry in our hearts the reality of our wounded world, the challenges facing the Church and vulnerability of our institute. We also encounter the emerging new forms of poverty among the ‘new poor,’ isolation, spiritual emptiness, exclusion, anxiety among the young, the loss of hope and ecological devastation. Mary continually points us to her Son, teaching us that by listening deeply to Him, our eyes and hearts are opened to the concrete realities of those who suffer. Her words to us remain pertinent: ‘Do whatever He tells you.’
The Institute’s Leadership Council invites all sisters, staff members, members of the Extended Family, and friends to sing the Magnificat and joyfully celebrate the Feast of the Heart of Mary! Read the full message at the link below.

Leia a mensagem completa no link abaixo.

Today we commemorate the establishment of the International Council on Archives (ICA) under the auspices of UNESCO 78 years ago. The day is dedicated to raising public awareness about the importance of records management and the critical role of archivists in preserving history. We also give thanks to our archivists around the globe who work diligently to preserve our RSCM-RSHM history and legacy.

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the heart that burns with divine love for humanity.

The pierced Heart of Christ reveals the depth of God’s mercy, compassion, and faithful love. From His Heart flowed blood and water, signs of the sacraments and of the life of the Church. In Him, we encounter a love that heals, reconciles, and restores.

The Sacred Heart invites us to rest in Christ’s love and to become witnesses of that same love in a wounded world, through compassion, justice, forgiveness, and service.

“Learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart.” (Matthew 11:29)

Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.

(Mateus 11:29)

Sagrado Coração de Jesus, tenha piedade de nós.

MAKING THE PAST ALIVE BUILDING THE FUTURE

Our Generalate archives are the historical guardians of our memory and our spiritual heritage. They are a living space that enables us to go back to February 24, 1849 and allows us to "touch" the lives of our founders, Fr. Gailhac and Mère Saint Jean, our first sisters and the lives of the sisters who have preceded in the 177 years of our history. Guided by our first Institute archivist, Sr. John Bosco, and the current archivist Romina Di Vizio we went through our archives and realized their importance of preserving and bringing our past to life, in living our present and in building our future.

TORNAR VIVO O PASSADO CONSTRUIR O FUTURO

National Gun Violence Awareness Day

Today we wear orange in observance of National Gun Violence Awareness Day. Together, we honor the victims and survivors of gun violence and raise awareness about the ongoing gun violence crisis in our nation.

As we prepare to join this important movement, we invite you to read and reflect on our statement on gun violence below.

No more! No more blood spilled in churches, in supermarkets, in schools in small rural towns! On this National Gun Violence Awareness Day, we, Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, Western American Area, cry out against the gun violence that continues to plague our country and we grieve with those families who have lost mothers and fathers, daughters, and sons, to senseless murder. We demand that our legislators enact gun safety laws to protect our citizens from this culture of violence that has so numbed our consciousness. We urge Congress to initiate legislation that requires universal background checks for all gun purchases and that bans the sale of military assault-like weapons to all civilians.

We are women who cannot stand by and continue to witness in silence the trauma and death caused by gun violence in our country. As human beings, responsible citizens, and women of faith, we commit ourselves to promote life by acting now for gun safety legislation - because the Jesus we believe in came that all might have life – life in abundance.

May we continue to work and pray for a future where every person can live in safety, dignity, and peace.
