The council is a group of concerned parents and community stakeholders who have come together with the intention of looking to close the achievement gap in the Montclair School District.
The council’s goal is to empower parents to work in concert with stakeholders to identify relevant programs and services in the community and highlight programs and services that are missing that help children achieve and thrive. The initiative in Montclair and the Essex County Council is administered by Programs for Parents.
In Montclair, the council has three committees: Education, Health and Parent Support and Engagement. Each committee is led by a parent and stakeholder Co-Chair, assisted by a Secretary, which meets monthly to develop strategies to address community concerns, plan community-wide collaborative efforts that empower families, and foster advocacy efforts for children. Each committee meets monthly to assess the committee’s action plan.
All general council meetings are held monthly at the Central Presbyterian Church, 46 Park St. Montclair. A light family dinner is served prompt at 5:30 pm. Youth activities are planned while parents attend the meeting.
