The ELCA Churchwide Assembly has voted to adopt the edited social statement “Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust.” In 2022, the Churchwide Assembly authorized two reconsiderations of the social statement. The 2025 assembly addressed Reconsideration #1: a review of specific text references that “would consider the import that marriage legally is now a covenant between individuals;” review specific wording “in light of public acceptance of marriage of same-gender and gender-non-conforming couples;” and “consider references to diversity of family configurations.”

We rejoice at the election of Rev. Lucille “CeCee” Mills as Secretary-Elect of the ELCA!

PHOENIX – The Rev. Lucille “CeCee” Mills was elected Aug. 1 to serve a six-year term as secretary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The election took place during the 2025 ELCA Churchwide Assembly being held July 28–Aug. 2 at the Phoenix (Ariz.) Convention Center.

We are pleased to announce the election of the Rev. Yehiel Curry as presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) .Bishop-elect Curry was elected on the fifth ballot with 70.34% of the vote.
