As we approach each summer, Musia and I spend a lot of time talking and thinking about what the summer should look like. What are our goals, what can we practically do, what makes the most sense for our family? We plan as best as we can, and we pray a whole lot, and the rest is up to Hashem.

“Can you make our kitchen kosher?”

That one ask turned into this.
A whole Jewish community in Montauk.
Shabbat vibes. Packed services. Musia’s famous salads. 😋

It wasn’t the plan.
But it was 100% meant to be.

We didn’t plan for Montauk.

But Montauk was meant to be.

One Jewish soul turned into a community with a heartbeat.
Now we’re getting ready to do it all again—bigger, better, bolder.

Why is this day different than all the other days of Passover preparations?

Don't get excited, everyone is still cleaning, cooking, packing...Passover still starts this weekend.

But there's a different energy in the air today in the home of your Chabad Rabbi. And for any Jew who has been impacted by the world of Chabad, today is significant too.

If you're reading this, that means you!

Today, the 11th of Nissan, is the birthday of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. The leader of the Chabad movement, who after the Holocaust chose to see the world as a garden.

Who dispatched his students to every corner of the globe to plant the seeds of Judaism and watch the flowers bloom.

It is not because of our own ideas, or our own abilities that we are here. It is the Rebbe's vision, guidance, trust, and empowerment.

If this sounds like something you've read before, it's probably because you have. The facts don't change. And so long as we are here, doing the work, it will be because of the Rebbe.

Today, we pause our Passover preparations for a bit to acknowledge this day. To commit to continue the Rebbe's mission, as a birthday gift to him. It's the longest lasting birthday gift ever. Because until Moshiach comes, we'll be here planting seeds.

Happy Birthday, Rebbe!

I was feeding my baby carrot mush yesterday.

It was bright orange.

And of course, I immediately thought of the Bibas family.

I haven't been reading all the posts. I didn't watch the funeral. I can't handle all of that.

The knowledge that a mother and her two young sons were killed in captivity, leaving a grieving young widower and father is enough for me to feel.

But I will never see the color orange the same way.

So when I'm feeding my baby his bright orange mush, my heart skips a beat and I take a deep breath, I hold back the tears that come rushing, and I smile at my boy.

I whisper to Shiri, Ariel, and Kfir: We won't forget you and we won't stop fighting. We will overflow the world with bright orange light. Every good deed we do, every smile we give, every time we push through this evil darkness-we'll be doing it for you.

And your pure and holy souls will ascend to the highest of heights, exploding with orange light, and you will make it happen. The pure innocence of those boys cannot be denied.

In the blink of an eye this nightmare will end. Shiri, Ariel, Kfir, and all the others will lead the procession into Jerusalem. Every Jew will be dancing behind them. And forever more, there will be peace. Forever more, we'll be home.

These past few days have been....what word do you use to describe a time you never in your wildest dreams imagined you'd be living through?

The collective heart of the Jewish people has been broken and hurt in the deepest way. Pain on top of pain on top of pain on top of pain.

When children are in pain, they cry. When adults are in pain...Well, some of them cry and some of them hold it all in.

I know that tonight, when I light my Shabbat candles, I will be like a child. In my moment of solitude with Hashem, with my hands covering my face, I will cry.

I will tell Hashem that we need the pain to end. I will tell Him that His children have been hurting and crying for too long. I will beg Hashem to make it stop, enough!

And then, I will open my eyes and celebrate Shabbat. Because that's what we do. Our enemies win if I spend all of Shabbat in tears and sadness, and I refuse to give them anything more than what they've already taken from us.

I've said this too many times recently, but the world needs your light. Women and girls, join me in lighting Shabbat candles this week at 5:12 PM in Montauk // 5:13 PM in East Hampton.

Images of hate have no place on this feed.

As Rabbi Aizik said so well at yesterday's love rally: If anti-Semitic graffiti is still showing up in our town, our work is not done.

We're as committed as ever to bringing more light and love into this world. Light so strong that it will forever banish the darkness that we are currently living in.

Tonight, we add light with the Shabbat candles.
Next week, we add light with the candles of the menorah.
And every single day, we have opportunities to add light by doing acts of goodness and kindness.

How will you bring more light into the world?

I will not watch the videos from the horrific attacks in Amsterdam. I can't handle watching things like that.

I don't need to watch it to know that it is fueled by merciless, baseless hatred of Jews. Encouraged by all of the marches and demonstrations shouting for our annihilation.

I don't need to watch it to feel the pain. Of fellow Jews being attacked for no reason other than the "crime" of being Jewish.

I don't need to watch it to be motivated to do something about it.

As in every other instance when those who hate us try to destroy us, we fight back with light. What can you do to increase the light you bring into the world today?

Women & girls light Shabbat candles today. Candle lighting in East Hampton is at 4:18 PM and at 4:17 PM in Montauk.

Men, find your local Rabbi and put on tefillin. It can be today, or any day except for Shabbos.

Learn some extra Torah, give extra charity, be extra kind. Do good.

And if you're struggling with the news of attacks on our people, reach out for support. 💗
