What’s hot news besides the weather? Welcoming a new pastor to Montandon UMC, after a one-year wait, this Sunday, July 5! Pastor Megan Millard will be leading our new charge that includes Catawissa Avenue UMC and Faith UMC, both of Sunbury. Not only are we navigating new waters in our multi-point charge, but we’re charting a new course and “catching the early tide” with our worship services, which will now begin at 9 A.M. starting this Sunday, July 5. We’re excited to be venturing out on this new voyage with Pastor Megan who, incidentally, is using the sermon title “Welcome to the Waves” for her first service with us this Sunday. Sound refreshing? We think so. We also think this news is both hot and cold in that we pray God’s Spirit to fan the flames of revival in our churches and communities, while already feeling the blessing of God’s provision like a fresh, cool breeze or cool, refreshing drink. Come stroll across the waves with us!

No service at Montandon UMC but church will be opened for parents & kids & others to visit where we met for our 'Rooted Bible Adventures' while 'Exploring the Nature of God.'

Montandon's sands have become Rainforest Falls today through Thursday at Montandon Baptist and Montandon UMC where we'll be Exploring the Nature of God, learning who God is through what He has made, how God provides for all creation, including and especially people, created for relationship with God. A lot of things that will be having kids 5 - 12 saying WOW, God!! all week! Come join the fun...and the WOW at Rainforest Falls VBS, Mon.-Thurs. 6-8:30 PM. At first glance this picture might be assumed to be from an 1800s Montandon Methodist Episcopal service. After all, these two aren't even smiling, at least not on the outside.
But there were smiles aplenty shared by all during and after this special service of Montandon UMC on May 31, 2026! (Which means that, yes, we ate together too!)
We welcomed Pastor John Lee of Lewisburg as Chaplain William McCormick of the 150th Pennsylvania Infantry Bucktails regiment of the Union Army of the Potomac, a regiment that served with valor during the Civil War, including the Battle of Gettysburg. "Chaplain McCormick" came to us as 30 years older, as if in the year 1894, reflecting back on his battle experiences.
Many of his musings were grim, as he shared of the heavy toll that battle strife dealt to his regiment and others on both sides of the conflict. Staggering casualties (killed, injured, or missing) that took over 65% of their unit. Chaplain McCormick was nearly 40 years old when he was mustered into the Union Army, and so was pained the most over the fact that the war's casualties were predominantly men around half his age, stating that war consumes a nation's youth.
We presented Sunday's service as much as possible as if we were in 1894 (hence the long dress & bonnet of our worship leader and, of course "Chaplain McCormick" in his Bucktails cap & uniform), and so we had no printed bulletins, but we did ring our steeple bell! For one Sunday, it was interesting and even a little fun to go back in time, even though reflecting on a very troubled, shattered time in our nation's history. It was a reminder that whenever and wherever there is strife, there is a God who is greater than any and all turmoil. Regarding Chaplain McCormick's day, it was said that the 150th Pennsylvania marched with bucktails in their caps, but it was the armor of God that guarded their spirits. They fought not for earthly glory, but for a Union preserved under God. The Word of God tells us: "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." -Ephesians 6:12 "... And this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith." -1 John 5:4b

Now, may the grace of God our Father, the love of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the sacred fellowship of the Holy Ghost be with you all, and especially with those who carry the scars of service, both seen and unseen. Go forth in His peace. Amen

Now that the start of 'unofficial summer' has kicked off with Memorial weekend, here's another good opportunity to kick-off (of sorts) celebration of USA's 250th. Our Sunday, May 31 service will be centered around a visit from "Chaplain William McCormick" of the 150th Pennsylvania Infantry 'Bucktails,' who will be reflecting on his time serving the Union Army of the Potomac as chaplain to the 150th Bucktails who served in the front lines at the Battle of Gettysburg. For our service, "assembly of troops" (that's our worship service) will occur at half-past ten (10:30 AM) with "mess call" (that's our carry-in meal) following the service around half-past eleven (11:30 AM).

We hope you can gather with us this Sunday! Either way, receive these truths from God's word:

Ephesians 6:12- "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

Proverbs 21:31- "The horse is prepared for the day of battle, But deliverance is of the Lord."

Celebrate victory in Jesus, from 1 Corinthians 15: "The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death... Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."

No services at Montandon UMC this Sunday, May 24. Joining with our brothers & sisters in Christ from the Northumberland and Sunbury UMC churches for a Pentecost celebration. Would've gathered at the Marina, but meeting instead at Otterbein UMC 356 Vine Street, Sunbury. Join with us for 10:15 worship & "picnic" lunch to follow (pizza provided). Finger foods, desserts, drinks to share are welcomed. Carpooling encouraged, so if you have transportation needs, post a message here or contact Deb Rarig. See you Sunday in Sunbury! (even tho likely not sunny)

More good happenings at Montandon UMC! Praising God for His faithfulness and leading during the past year of church ministry without a pastor. Looking forward to the blessing of the coming ministry year with newly appointed Pastor Megan Millard (pronounced Mill-ARD’) beginning July 1! Grateful for the prayers and discernment that not only brought her to us but also aligned us in a new 3-point Charge that includes Catawissa Avenue UMC, and Faith UMC, both in Sunbury. Megan has been pastoring at Christ UMC in Northumberland and was previously involved with our Santa Project at the Montandon trailer parks for several years now, so she is already known to some of us! Let’s look forward to working together in ministry being the hands and feet of Christ to our Montandon community! Let’s come together in worship this Sunday as we focus on our oneness in Christ. Sunday School at 9:15; Worship at 10:30.

As we journeyed through Lent, we were reminded again and again that prayer is not simply one more task in the life of a disciple. Prayer is the heartbeat of the Christian life. It roots us in God’s presence, opens our lives to
God’s sustaining love, and draws us into the life of the One who makes all things new.
The resurrection (of Christ) is God’s definitive answer to the world’s deepest prayers—
the prayer for healing,
the prayer for justice,
the prayer for peace,
the prayer for new life.
And here is the astonishing truth of Easter:
The risen Christ now invites us to become part of God’s answer...this Easter, I invite you to do more than celebrate the empty tomb. I invite you to embody it.
Where there is division—be a bridge.
Where there is fear—be a presence of peace.
Where there is injustice—be a voice for righteousness.
Where there is loneliness—be a companion.
Where there is despair—be a witness to hope.
Where there is suffering—be a sign of Christ’s healing love.
Let your life become a living Amen to the prayers of the world.
