Jewish Federations of North America mourn alongside the community of the Islamic Center in San Diego following today’s horrific shooting. No one should ever fear for their safety while gathering in prayer, community, or worship.

This tragedy comes as more than 400 Jewish Federation leaders from across the country arrive In Washington, DC, to advocate lawmakers for $1 billion in security funding to help protect houses of worship and faith-based institutions nationwide.

Today’s attack is yet another painful reminder that the threat facing religious communities in America is real, urgent, and growing.

This Sunday, May 17 from 6-8 PM, all five leading candidates for Superintendent of Public Instruction are coming to us on Zoom – live and on the record – to answer your questions on the education issues that matter most to Jewish Californians.

The next California Superintendent of Public Instruction will oversee the largest public school system in the nation – serving nearly six million students. For the Jewish community, this election couldn't matter more.

Antisemitism in California schools has surged in recent years. In response, we led the passage of AB 715 – California’s landmark school antisemitism prevention law. But a law is only as strong as its enforcement. The next Superintendent will be responsible for implementing AB 715 and setting the tone for how California schools respond to antisemitism on campus.

We will hear from the leading candidates directly.

How to win hearts and minds
Communication strategies for combating antisemitism
Tuesday, May 19, 7 pm
Temple Beth David
In partnership with the ADL

Antisemitic incidents have increased by 344% over the past five years, and many Jews are finding themselves facing difficult conversations with friends, colleagues, classmates, and neighbors.

In moments like these, knowing what to say — and how to say it — matters.

Drawing on years of research from the ADL Center for Antisemitism Research, this program How to Win Hearts and Minds: Communication Strategies for Combating Antisemitism gives Jewish participants, and our close allies, practical, evidence-based tools to respond to antisemitism with clarity and confidence.

Participants learn how to:
· Talk about antisemitism in ways that reduce defensiveness and build understanding
· Use language and framing proven to shift attitudes and build allyship
· Respond effectively in everyday conversations, both in person and online
· Navigate challenging moments while strengthening Jewish voices and community
