True Wealth
Deut 8:18-20
18 And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. 19 Then it shall be, if you by any means forget the LORD your God, and follow other gods, and serve them and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish. 20 As the nations which the LORD destroys before you, so you shall perish, because you would not be obedient to the voice of the LORD your God.

Deut 8:18 tells us that the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth. People spend their whole life trying to achieve wealth. Some look for it everywhere but the right place. True wealth only comes from God. To understand we need to learn what wealth really is. Is wealth having riches? Is wealth having material possessions? People can have great wealth in their life with or without those things. Wealth comes from understanding who God is and where our relationship is with Him. He gives us the power to get wealth that He may establish His covenant. Ask God to show you the true wealth in your life and give Him thanks.

Show Me the Way
Gen 12:1-4
12:1 Now the LORD had said to Abram: "Get out of your country, From your family And from your father's house, To a land that I will show you. 2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." 4 So Abram departed as the LORD had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.

Abram was seventy-five years old when God told him to leave His country, his family and his father’s house. To a land God would show him. He told Abram He would make him a great nation, bless him and his name would be great. What God didn’t tell him is where he was going. God said to go to a place He would show him. When we are young we are more open to adventure and trying different things, but as we get older we tend to be in a comfort zone that we like. Do you think Abram was comfortable and God came along and changed that? God blessed Abram just as He promised, but Abram had to follow God’s will in his life. God is the same today. I believe He moves us from our comfort zone to a new level with Him. Ask God today “Are you wanting to move me to new level? Here I am Lord show me the way”.

Take away the Sin
John 1:29-34
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is He of whom I said, 'After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.' 31 I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water." 32 And John bore witness, saying, "I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him. 33 I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.' 34 And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God."

John 1:29 speaks of the “Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world”. Sin in our life has such a high cost. When we study people in the bible we learn the price they paid for disobeying God. I look back in my life at scars and the price I paid. I can also see where God was there. Someone prayed. It’s God’s will that all men are saved, but we have to make that decision. Jesus paid the price for all our sins, but we have to make the decision to surrender to Him and ask for forgiveness. Look around you at a hurting world and find someone to tell about Jesus. Someone told you!

Under Authority

Luke 7:7-9
7 Therefore I did not even think myself worthy to come to You. But say the word, and my servant will be healed. 8 For I also am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes; and to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it." 9 When Jesus heard these things, He marveled at him, and turned around and said to the crowd that followed Him, "I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!
In Luke chapter 7 a centurion’s servant was sick and he had sent elders of the Jews to Jesus. Jesus agreed and was coming to his house, but as they got close the centurion felt he was not worthy for Jesus to come. He sent friends to Him saying "Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof.” He asked Jesus to just say the word and his servant would be healed. He was also a man under authority and with authority. As we surrender to God’s authority in our life He gives us authority. The centurion recognized Jesus was under the authority of His father and what authority was given Him. God wants us to submit to His authority as we do that He gives us authority in our life. Ask Him today is there areas that I haven’t let God have.

Walls for God
1 Peter 2:1-5
2:1 Therefore, laying aside all malice, all guile, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, 2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious. 4 Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

The past week we have focused on walls. God through Nehemiah had restored the walls and gates around Jerusalem. The walls served a purpose. They provide protection for the people inside. They can also become a prison if we lock our self-inside and fear the outside world. The walls around the cities had gates to go in and out. When the enemy came against them they had place to go for safety. Verse 4 speaks of coming to God as a living stone. As believers we become that spiritual wall that keeps the enemy out. We are all stones in the wall chosen by God. We are all part of the wall that provides protection. Ask God today to show you where your place is in the wall.

News of the Storm
Neh 1:3-4
3 And they said to me, "The survivors who are left from the captivity in the province are there in great distress and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates are burned with fire."
4 So it was, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned for many days; I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven.

Last week we read of how God thru Nehemiah had restored the walls around the city of Jerusalem for all to see. In verse 3 of Nehemiah we read of how Nehemiah received the news of Jerusalem’s current state. Verse 4 tells us that after hearing these words he sat down and wept and mourned for many days, fasted and prayed for many days before the God of heaven. In the world we live, news travels fast. As soon as Hurricane IDA passed through New Orleans we began to receive reports of the damage. Newscast, facebook, and other communications. How did we react? Was our reaction the same as Nehemiah? You and I as believers have a broken and desperate world all around us that needs God. Nehemiah wept and prayed before God and He came thru. I believe He wants to do that for us today just as He did then. What storms of life has God sent word to us? What are we doing with the information?

Our Reflection
Neh 6:15-16

15 So the wall was finished on the twenty-fifth day of Elul, in fifty-two days. 16 And it happened, when all our enemies heard of it, and all the nations around us saw these things, that they were very disheartened in their own eyes; for they perceived that this work was done by our God.

In Nehemiah 1:3 Nehemiah was told of the condition of Jerusalem and he cried out to God for the city. He began to take action and God gave him favor and he started the process to restore the walls. The process was not without opposition, but in 52 days it was complete. Nehemiah 16 tells us that when their enemies heard of it and all the nations around them were dis-hearted in their own eyes ; for they perceived the work was done by God. Our life as believers is to give that reflection. We are His children led by Him. All that we accomplish is by him. Nehemiah and others worked for the walls to be rebuilt, but all was accomplished by the direction and favor of God. What is our life showing other people? Is God glorified by our actions? Ask yourself that today.

Speak to the Rock

Speak to the Rock

7 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 8 “Take the rod; you and your brother Aaron gather the congregation together. Speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will yield its water; thus you shall bring water for them out of the rock, and give drink to the congregation and their animals.” 9 So Moses took the rod from before the LORD as He commanded him.
10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock; and he said to them, “Hear now, you rebels! Must we bring water for you out of this rock?” 11 Then Moses lifted his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came out abundantly, and the congregation and their animals drank.
12 Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not believe Me, to hallow Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.”

In verse 7 God told Moses to speak to the rock before the people and He would yield it’s water. Moses followed God’s instruction partly. He assembled the people but in his anger with them he disobeyed and struck the rock. Because of his disobedience God forbid him to cross over to the promise land, but God still provided the water for His people and their animals. God gives us instruction. Some people would say that it didn’t matter the people still received the water. We live our life most of the time just looking at the time at hand. God sees eternity. Earlier God had instructed Moses to strike the rock for water. As we examine our life is there areas that God is instructing us to move to a higher level of belief. That higher level may not be for our benefit. I can be for those around us. Ask Him today.

Labors
Matt 9:36-38
36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest."

In Matthew 9:36 Jesus was moved with compassion as he saw the multitudes. They were scattered like sheep having no shepherd. As you and I look at the world today we should be moved with that same compassion. Jesus said “the harvest truly is plentiful but the labors are few. Therefore pray the lord of harvest to send out labors into His harvest”. I look around today and I see signs everywhere advertising for jobs. Companies are struggling because there is such a shortage of workers. God’s house is suffering in the same way. Where would you and I be if people had not given their time to share Jesus with us? God has called all of us to a work. That work may be where no one sees. He has put up the signs “Help Wanted” problem is are we all answering the call? Look back in your life and ask God to show you who labored for you. Someone was moved with compassion that we might find Jesus. Look for the signs “Help Wanted”. Someone out there needs your help.

Kingdom At Hand
Matt 10:5-8
5 These twelve Jesus sent out and commanded them, saying: "Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter a city of the Samaritans. 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

In Matthew 10 Jesus gives instruction to the Apostles. They are to go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as you go, preach saying the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Do you believe that message is being spoken to the Church today? Do you believe God is sending people to preach that message to His church? Jesus called them the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Verse 16 says “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves”. That is very true today but doesn’t change our message. If you take notice and look around the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. God is reaching out to His people. You and I as believers are to never let up on our journey. Do you believe Jesus has instructed us in Matthew 10 just as he did the Apostles then?

Think Like A Child
John 13:33-35
33 Little children, I shall be with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, 'Where I am going, you cannot come,' so now I say to you. 34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."

In John 13:33 Jesus spoke to the disciples and called them little children yet they were grown men. The bible refers to God’s people as children many times. What does it mean to be a child? You’re a son or daughter of someone. Or maybe a dependent. Or maybe it’s your perception. Last Sunday I preached a relative’s funeral and I saw family that I still think of as kids yet they are over fifty years old. I believe Jesus called them little children and says we must be like children to receive the kingdom of heaven to open our mine to Him. This world clouds our thinking and our perception of what the Kingdom Of God is. Ask God to help you see things again as you saw them as a child and not clouded by the things of the world.
