Companionship Training
Saturday, 18 April 2026, 9a-12p
Monroe Covenant Church

We have an opportunity to learn together this Saturday. Long-time street minister Sparrow Etter Carlson and Lizbeth Adams are coming from Sacred Streets to do a Companionship Training for us. Sacred Streets is the non-profit organization continuing the work of Seattle street minister Craig Rennebohm, author of ‘Souls In the Hands of a Tender God,’ equipping the church to walk alongside our vulnerable and unhoused neighbors in a posture of mutuality.

From Sacred Streets:
‘Somewhere along the way, we forgot how to be human together. We forgot our most tender instinct-to turn toward one another.

Sacred Streets exists to awaken and sustain that turning. In community with people experiencing homelessness, we train and equip everyday people to braid practices of hospitality, presence and belonging into every threshold of their neighbors’ lives-wherever we live, work and serve.

When we turn toward one another, we remember: we have what we need in each other. There is more than enough.’

This training will be useful for all of us, not just those who volunteer with unhoused neighbors, as we seek to love our neighbors as ourselves and be Ministers of Presence in our everyday lives and neighborhoods. We will be joined by folks from TTNS and other churches and organizations in Monroe. All are welcome! Please consider coming to learn together and share with your congregations or friends. At the Last Supper, Jesus commanded his disciples to love one another as he had loved them. We celebrate that command on Maundy Thursday. Join us for our annual Maundy Thursday cash mob. Anytime on Thursday, April 2, eat a meal at Tijuana Taqueria on Main Street in Monroe. Pay cash, don’t ask for change, and leave a generous tip as we fellowship together and bless a local business and help them cut down on credit card fees.

Join us as we walk along Main Street praying for our city. We will leave after the service Sunday and walk to City Hall and the Police Department, Frank Wagner Elementary, the intersection of Lewis and Main, and back to MCC and TTNS. The route is about 1.8 miles and should take about an hour.

Pray along with your church family during Lent following our Lenten Prayer Calendar. Each week involves praying for a different part of God’s world, starting with our closest sphere and moving outward. Each day has a different focus. May we take our laments, praises, and petitions to the Lord who loves us and loves the world!

We had a wonderful weekend of celebration, learning, and fellowship for our 120th anniversary! Thank you to Dr. Hauna Ondrey for being with us and sharing about Covenant history. Thank you to all who wrote us letters of encouragement. And thank you to the amazing women of the planning committee and everyone else who contributed to make this weekend special and delicious. We praise God for his faithfulness to us for 120 years, and we praise God in advance for our present and future.
