May is National Mental Health Awareness Month and National Foster Care Awareness Month đź’›

It is important to recognize the overlap between the two. Many children and youth impacted by foster care experience mental health challenges at a significantly higher rate than their peers.

These concerning statistics should move us to advocate for every child in care to receive adequate trauma-informed support and care, ensuring that children and youth do not have to face these challenges alone.

Ruston — it’s your turn!!!! Join me for a Foster Parent Orientation in partnership with the Family Village and learn more about the foster care certification process, what to expect, and how you can make a difference in a child’s life. I’d love to see you there!

MONROE REGION

What if the next step of obedience God is calling you to is simply opening your heart to learn more?

“Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2

Foster care is more than providing a bed — it is walking alongside children and families during some of the hardest moments of their lives with compassion, stability, and love. While not everyone is called to foster, everyone can take the first step of learning more.

If you have ever considered becoming a certified foster parent or simply want more information about the process, we invite you to attend our upcoming Foster Parent Orientation!

Saying “yes” to fostering does not mean having all the answers — it means being willing to show up, love well, and allow God to work through your home and heart. One caring adult can make a lifelong difference for a child in need.

• A space to share your experiences, challenges, and ideas
• Honest discussion about what is working and where improvement is needed
• A collaborative dialogue focused on identifying practical solutions
• Opportunities to connect with fellow foster caregivers and community partners

We hope you will join a session near you and be part of the conversation. Please see the attached flyer for additional details.

As you tune into the Super Bowl today, here are some truths you may not know...

Right now, 328,947 kids are in foster care according to the most updated AFCARS report.

That is enough to fill the five largest NFL stadiums.

And around every 96 seconds, roughly the length of a commercial break, another child enters care. That makes around 150 kids during the game.

You might be thinking, What can I do about this?
The truth is, you don’t have to foster to make a difference (although these kids do need safe, supportive homes).

Even engaging with our content (following, liking, commenting, sharing...) helps spread awareness.

Additionally, we have many other resources on our website to help you be involved at any level!
