Habakkuk 3

Our nation is ripe for judgment. We have perverted justice and not protected the defenseless. How do we reconcile that God will judge, that He often does so corporately, and that we as believers may see the days when all manner of sustenance has dried up? We pray for His mercy, we plead for genuine revival and we know Whom we have believed, that He is able to guard that which we have entrusted to Him until that day (2 Tim 1).

A message from Pastor Tim:

“And through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people. And they were all with one accord in Solomon’s Porch. Yet none of the rest dared join them, but the people esteemed them highly.”

In our text today we see that God was doing a mighty work within the midst of the new believers. Verse 13 is that I call the understatement of the world.

Many were coming to faith in Jesus Christ. However, when one converts it is not based on oneself. It is based on the work that God has done in the individual. Many today don’t have the fear of God and they just live as they desire. Ananias and Sapphira were struck dead in the midst of a service where many saw it and talked about it. The Bible tells us that their intake of church members dried up. “None of the rest dared join them”. Does anyone wonder why?

We are to live holy lives before God.

A message from our deacon, Austin Reep:

Psalm 75: 2-3

“At the set time that I appoint
I will judge with equity. When the earth totters, and all its inhabitants,
it is I who keep steady its pillars. Selah”

A couple of truths to reflect on here:
- God has a time where He will judge all peoples of the earth past and present
- He sets that time. We cannot hasten nor cause its delay
- God will judge rightly, perfectly, without caving to any human pressure or political correctness
- God knows all of the “yeah but” and your argument won’t matter. That widow who put in her two pennies, all that she had, will be vindicated over those who gave more, but still less
- God and His kingdom are not moved by the world’s incorrect and prideful, sinful judgments. Do not stress over trying to be judged rightly by the same corrupt hearts (our hearts) that crucified the only perfect man, Jesus.

Peter and John are preaching and the priest and Saducceess came in anger to confront them. It was is in the next verse that we are told the reason they were so angry. It was because they were preaching that Jesus had risen from the dead.

In today’s society we can talk about God’s love and no one will concern themselves with our message. We can even talk about how much Jesus loves the little children and sing that nursery rhyme, and everyone will agree and promote that thought. But if we begin talking about Jesus rising from the dead in order to save us from sin, we will get blasted by society.

I submit to you, the reason we are not experiencing the hatred in our society today is we are not presenting the resurrected Lord Jesus.

I encourage you to stand on the truth of the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ.

A message from Pastor Tim:

“So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart,”

Notice how Dr Luke worded this verse as he explained the church’s daily schedule.

They were in one accord in the Temple. This means they went to church every day. They would meet in the Temple (Church building) on a daily basis. Let remind you these people had jobs just as you and I. But they made time in their daily routine to go to church every day.

I am sure they enjoyed communion in the church but it goes on to say they would share meals in each other’s homes. They had glad hearts and it was something they did with joy.

One other item we need to grasp. Notice their worship was a simplistic worship style. I constantly come back to this in my mind. Is our worship service leading us in complicated intellectually deep talks?

Nothing wrong in being an intellectual. But when it comes to worship we need to keep it simple. This is one of the reasons I am leading our church to keep their children in the worship service. Your children need to see mama and daddy getting touched by a song, and sensing the Holy Spirit in the sermon. These are items that we should never think is too simple to have in the worship time.
