Here's where this gets practical for us right now.

This summer we have incredible open doors in front of us — Worship in the Park, our summer events, new faces walking through the door. These aren't just events to pull off. They are open doors to bring people in.

Look around your church family. Someone has been faithful and present — but uninvolved. Not because they're apathetic. Because no one has asked.

Worship in the Park is a perfect moment to walk up to that person and say: "Hey, I'd love for you to be part of making this happen. Can you serve with me?"

Don't just run the event. Use the event to develop a person.

Involve before you execute.
Invest in people, not just outcomes.
Work yourself out of a job.

This summer, be intentional. The harvest is ready. So are the workers — they just haven't been asked yet.

Day 4: God's Sufficient Grace

Devotional: Thirteen years passed after Ishmael's birth before God spoke to Abraham again. When He finally appeared, He revealed Himself as El Shaddai - the all-sufficient God. This wasn't coincidental timing; it was intentional revelation. God wanted Abraham to understand that His promises would be fulfilled not through human effort, but through divine sufficiency. El Shaddai means God is enough - enough for your closed womb, enough for your broken dreams, enough for your impossible situation. He doesn't need our help to accomplish His purposes. In fact, our attempts to assist often complicate His perfect plan. When we choose to trust God's character and walk in faith despite our pain and challenges, we discover something greater than what we were originally waiting for. We encounter God Himself. The fulfillment of His promises comes not through our striving, but through His supernatural movement. He is sufficient even for the consequences of our past mistakes.

Bible Verse: 'When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, "I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless."' - Genesis 17:1

Reflection Question: In what area of your life do you need to experience God as El Shaddai - the all-sufficient One?

Quote: God does not want us to be a people marked by what we could produce. He wants us to be a people marked by something greater than we could ever produce.

Prayer: El Shaddai, You are enough for every gap in my life. Help me rest in Your sufficiency rather than striving in my own strength.

Day 3: The Cost of Our Solutions

Devotional: Abraham and Sarah's plan worked - sort of. Hagar conceived, but instead of solving their problem, it created new ones. Hagar began to despise Sarah, Sarah became jealous and harsh, and Abraham found himself caught in the middle of a conflict he helped create. This is the reality of filling God's gaps with our own solutions: there are always consequences. When we act out of our pain, need, or impatience, we usually make decisions that create more problems than they solve. The career built to prove our worth might succeed but cost us our family. The relationship pursued to fill loneliness might provide companionship but compromise our integrity. Our human efforts to fulfill God's promises often produce results that look right on the surface but carry hidden costs. The Ishmael we build might seem like progress, but it's not the Isaac God intended. Recognizing this pattern is the first step toward choosing a different path - one that trusts God's timing and methods, even when they're harder to understand.

Bible Verse: 'When she knew she was pregnant, she began to despise her mistress.' - Genesis 16:4

Reflection Question: What consequences have you experienced from trying to fulfill God's promises through your own efforts?

Quote: When you fill the gap with something other than what God wants, that gap filled with what happens, it has consequences.

Prayer: Lord, forgive me for the times I've rushed ahead of Your plan. Help me see the true cost of my impatience and choose Your way instead.

Today is Primary Election Day in Iowa. 🗳️

As followers of Jesus, we believe that citizenship — like everything else — is an act of stewardship before God. We don’t check our faith at the door of the voting booth. We bring our whole selves.

“We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” — Ephesians 2:10

I’m not telling you who to vote for. That’s between you and the Lord. But I am urging you: don’t sit this one out.

Pray before you go. Ask God for wisdom (James 1:5). Vote for those who will govern with integrity, protect the vulnerable, and uphold what is true and just.

Polls are open today. Take someone with you. Make your voice heard. 🙏

Day 2: The Temptation to Take Control

Devotional: When waiting becomes painful, we're tempted to help God out. Sarah's suggestion to Abraham seemed perfectly reasonable: "Since the Lord has kept me from having children, go sleep with my servant; perhaps I can build a family through her." It was logical, culturally acceptable, and appeared to solve their problem. But reasonable isn't always right. When we grow weary of waiting, we often devise our own solutions that seem to align with God's promises but bypass His process. We might pursue relationships that compromise our values, chase careers that prove our worth, or develop habits that numb our pain. These human solutions might provide temporary relief, but they rarely deliver what God intended. They're like building an Ishmael - something that looks like the answer but creates complications we never anticipated. The pressure of unmet expectations can drive us to make decisions that seem right in the moment but lead us away from God's best.

Bible Verse: 'So she said to Abram, "The Lord has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my slave; perhaps I can build a family through her." Abram agreed to what Sarai said.'
-Genesis 16:2

Reflection Question: What 'Ishmael' might you be tempted to build in your current season of waiting?

Quote: That's what I call building an Ishmael. I've been waiting for 10 plus years. Nothing has happened. I see the promises of God. I'm wounded, I'm hurt, I'm angry, I'm upset. I have all this pressure. I have an idea. Maybe this will relieve the pain in my life.

Prayer: Father, guard my heart from the temptation to take control when Your timing feels too slow. Help me trust Your process, not just Your promises.

Day 1: When Promises Feel Distant

Devotional: Life has a way of creating painful gaps between what God has promised and what we're currently experiencing. Abraham and Sarah knew this struggle intimately. God had promised them a child, but years stretched on with no sign of fulfillment. The silence felt deafening, and the waiting became unbearable. We've all been there - holding onto a promise from God while our circumstances seem to mock that very promise. Maybe it's a relationship you're praying will be restored, a job you're believing for, or healing you're desperately seeking. The gap between promise and reality can feel overwhelming. But here's what we must remember: God's delays are not God's denials. When He seems silent, He's still sovereign. When His timing doesn't match ours, His faithfulness remains unchanged. The gap isn't empty - it's a sacred space where our faith can grow deeper and our trust can become stronger.

Bible Verse: 'Now Sarai, Abram's wife, had borne him no children. But she had an Egyptian slave named Hagar.' Genesis 16:1

Reflection Question: What promise from God are you currently waiting to see fulfilled, and how is that waiting affecting your faith?

Quote: When God delays, faith waits on El Shaddai. Because what we produce in the gap will never do what God has promised in the covenant.

Prayer: Lord, help me trust Your timing even when I can't see Your plan. Give me patience to wait on Your perfect provision rather than rushing ahead with my own solutions.

Men of Gateway — grateful for today. 🔥

Nothing quite like sitting down with brothers, breaking bread together, and getting real about what it means to follow Jesus.

Proverbs says it plain: “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” That’s exactly what happened today. Good food, good conversation, and men reminding each other that we’re not walking this thing out alone.

Grateful for every guy who made the time to be here. And if you missed it — no guilt, just an invitation. There’s a seat for you next time.

Keep showing up, men. Keep sharpening each other. The Kingdom needs you.

Wednesday Nights at Gateway — Starting THIS Wednesday! 🪑

We’re kicking off a brand new video series by Louie Giglio: “Don’t Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table.”

Built around Psalm 23 — “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies” — this study is about something every one of us deals with: the battle of the mind.

The thoughts that spin you out. The lies that steal your peace. The voices that tell you you’re not enough, not loved, not going to make it.

Here’s the truth: those thoughts aren’t from God. And you don’t have to pull up a chair and let them sit at your table.

Over six weeks together, we’ll learn how to:
✔️ Recognize the enemy’s tactics
✔ Cancel the lies that wreck your life
✔️ Take authority over your thoughts
✔️ Walk in the peace and victory Jesus already won for you

Marty Griggs is leading us through it, and week one starts this Wednesday night at Gateway.

Whether you’ve been with us for years or you’ve been looking for a place to land — this is a great week to come. Bring a friend. Bring your Bible. Bring whatever’s been weighing on your mind.

There’s a seat at God’s table for you. Let’s take it together.
