“In this week's readings, God speaks from a burning bush that is not consumed, revealing the divine name to a reluctant Moses: I Am Who I Am. God sends him directly toward the suffering he had fled. That same holy ground runs beneath Paul's breathtaking vision of the Christian life: genuine love, hospitality extended to strangers, evil overcome not by force but by good, enemies fed rather than conquered. Jesus makes the cost explicit: Take up your cross, lose your life to find it. The God who grafts love into our hearts and brings forth the fruit of good works is the same God who sends us, like Moses, back toward the very place we thought we could not go.”

August 23, 2026 Koinonia Gathering begins at 10:15 a.m. To celebrate the Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost Fr. Brian will preside over the Holy Eucharist at 11:30 a.m. After fellowship, we will hold Vestry.

“In this week’s readings, God’s purposes cannot be drowned, buried, or oppressed into silence; they keep multiplying, keep escaping, keep surfacing in the most unlikely places. Shiphrah and Puah, two midwives whose names Pharaoh never bothered to learn, fear God more than empire and quietly subvert the machinery of death; a mother hides her son in a basket of reeds and a princess pulls him from the water, and the deliverer of Israel is saved by the courage of women on both sides of the divide. Paul calls the church to be transformed, presenting our different gifts as parts of one body in Christ. And Jesus turns to his disciples and asks the question that still demands an answer: Who do you say that I am?”

“In our readings this week, Scripture reminds us that mercy breaks open what betrayal and disobedience closed shut, and it is always wider than anyone expected. Joseph, who had every reason for bitterness, weeps with forgiveness and declares to the brothers who sold him: it was not you but God who sent me here, to preserve life. The Canaanite woman refuses to be turned away, meets Jesus’s hard words with fierce and humble faith, and wins from him the astonishing verdict: “Great is your faith.” Paul anchors it all, remind us that the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable. Where we live together in unity, the psalm tells us, there the Lord has ordained the blessing: life forevermore.”

August 2, 2026 Morning Prayer at 11:30 a.m.

“Today we read of how God meets us in the place of struggle, scarcity, and grief and transforms every one of them. Jacob wrestles through the night with the divine, refuses to let go without a blessing, and limps away with a new name and the mark of that encounter written on his body forever. Paul bears unceasing anguish for his own people, a reminder that genuine love costs something and that the gifts of God are never cause for triumphalism. Jesus, grieving and seeking solitude, is met by a hungry crowd. Rather than turning them away, he takes five loaves and two fish, blesses and breaks them, and feeds five thousand with twelve baskets left over. The church that cannot continue in safety without God’s help is also the church entrusted with more than enough to feed the world.”

July 26, 2026 we will be celebrating the Ninth Sunday after Pentecost with Holy Eucharist presided over by Fr. Brian at 11:30 a.m.

“In this week’s readings, the kingdom of God works the way a mustard seed works, the way yeast works — small, hidden, unstoppable, transforming everything it touches. The psalm calls us to remember a God who has been faithful to his covenant across a thousand generations, and Paul reaches the crescendo of Romans 8: neither death nor life, neither things present nor things to come, neither height nor depth nor anything else in all creation can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. This is the treasure hidden in the field, the pearl of great price, and it has already been given to us.”

While we didn’t gather for this Eighth Sunday after Pentecost. Please know that we continue to pray for all of our St. Andrew’s friends and family. May this summer be full of love, joy, and peace. May God continue to provide all of us strength and comfort, that refreshed we turn to him not in our need, but also in thanksgiving.

“In this week’s readings, the overwhelming presence of God meets us precisely where we are — in the wilderness, in our weakness, in a world where wheat and w**ds grow up together. Jacob falls asleep on a stone and wakes to discover that the gate of heaven was right where he was standing, because there is nowhere we can go where God is not already there, searching us out, knowing us, holding us fast in darkness and in light. Paul carries that forward: we have not received a spirit of slavery and fear, but a spirit of adoption, and the whole groaning creation strains toward the day when God’s children are fully revealed in glory. Jesus tells us to resist the anxious urge to uproot every w**d in the field — judgment belongs to God, and the righteous will shine like the sun in their Father’s kingdom. “

With the cancellation of our Morning Prayer service this weekend it’s quite a coincidence that this memory popped up on my personal Facebook feed. This posting wasn’t trying to cast any blame for having conflicting priorities but to emphasize the infinite patience of God, something we should never take for granted.
