Something worth celebrating! The recidivism (rearrest) rate in Union County Jail for the 2024-2026 period dropped to 3%. This is based on inmates who participated in SCM’s Life Skills Courses. The national average rate is 44%! God is so good!

What a great year! The impact we made wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of the SCM staff, our volunteers, partner organizations, churches, financial contributors, and so many more! We can never thank you enough! To God be the glory!

Introducing the Fremont House, our first transitional home. The Fremont is located in Polkton, NC, and will house up to four men coming out of incarceration and/or rehab. This “Transition to Triumph (T3)” program provides structured housing, intensive oversight, and comprehensive support services. The goal is to break the cycle of recidivism (rearrests) and relapse by guiding tenants toward financial literacy, stable employment, and independent, sustainable housing.

We had a great turnout at our Anson/Union Reentry Council Meeting last Tuesday! Anson County Health & Human Services was on site to discuss the benefit criteria for justice-involved individuals for Medicaid, Food and Nutrition, and other provider services. We also formed dedicated groups that will focus on five key areas to help previously incarcerated people successfully reintegrate into society: housing, transportation, employment, education, and provider services. Many thanks to all those who attended this meeting!

The Anson/Union Reentry Council is a group of community-based partnership agencies, organizations, or advocates that coordinate resources at the local level to help formerly incarcerated people or those in substance use recovery successfully transition back into society. The Council assists these individuals in becoming productive citizens and reducing rearrests or relapse. Our quarterly meeting will be held at 2 pm on July 21 at the Anson Community Room in Atrium Hospital Anson, 2301 US 74, Wadesboro. All are welcome. We hope to see you there!
