Disappointing news to hear that the Southern Baptist Convention has overwhelmingly voted to ban churches with women serving as pastors. Since it's inception, the PCUSA has affirmed the witness and authority of women as ministers. This ban by the SBC is not only unethical, it's unbiblical as well.

We're moving worship inside!

Due to the humidity, mugginess, and small potential for rain, we'll worship inside today in the social hall. We'll still have a potluck after worship and feel free to bring your lawn chairs inside if you were looking forward to using them 😁

We'll attempt a livestream but internet may be spotty. We'll do our best and hope to see you there!

Did you know at one time, Christianity used to teach that being left-handed was sinful and an abomination? Christians would force left-handed children to write with their right hands. Even into the 1940's-50's, many remember having their hands smacked with rulers and other objects if caught using their left hand to write.

Interestingly enough, the bible never actually condemns left-handed people, but over time, interpretations and misreadings of certain scriptures, as well as teachings of the church, were used to cause harm to folks who were left-handed. It's a reminder that sometimes our cultural assumptions sneak into our theology so we always have to be careful.

We know now, by listening to folks who are left-handed, that this is simply how they were born. It was not a choice nor something they can just "change". Seems to be a lot of parallels to conversations happening around LGBTQIA+ folks, doesn't it?
