Some thoughts from Pastor Shaun.
This month we are looking at the impact that Connection Point Church has had on individual lives. Many of us can see how God has been actively working in and through this church body. I have had many people comment to me about how the community in CPC feels differently: more authentic, more energizing, and more radical than churches in the past. This is the culture that we are trying to build on Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings, and every other day of the week. We want to build a church that is open and inviting to visitors, one that is not afraid to speak truth in love to one another but also one that does not add unnecessary rules to "how to do church." Ultimately, we want to build a community of strong believers that are unafraid to stand up to the culture, love radically, and listen to the will of God in all areas of our lives. We want to model our church after the first churches in Acts 2, churches where the community is focused on loving well and going deeper.
We do not need shallow teachings about how loving God is today (plenty of pastors will offer us that), rather we need teachings that cause us to recognize our need for a savior. This is vital to our walk because we serve a just God who loves us enough that he does not want us to stay in our sin. He desires us to continue to grow. As we walk this earth, we will inevitably fail. At times, we are selfish, other times greedy, and still other times hateful (and that is just a Monday morning) because we are all works in progress until we stand before our creator and savior.
As a church, we have to recognize our shortcomings in ourselves first and then offer truth, shining light where the darkness resides for others. We have to hold our brothers and sisters accountable. We have to offer encouragement and grace when they fall and we have to forgive. This is what the church was and is called to do. God uses the church to share His Gospel and reveal our deep seated need for Him to transform us. As I am sitting here, I am wearing the CPC shirt that says, "Just come as you are. You can change inside." This is how we must be every day. We come before God just as we are but we will allow him to change us from the inside out. This is what makes CPC so special to me and I hope you also. Starting Sunday, I would encourage you to grab a leaf and write how God has used this church to bless you.
