This Weekend....

Alas the Lord sent 'gentle showers upon the earth that it may be fruitful' (from St Basils Liturgy), but that washed out our plans for grave visits and blessings today. But we'll plan to have Liturgy at 9:30am on Sunday, June 28th followed by Coffee Fellowship. Hope to see you then!

PS - I hope and pray that no one was adversely effected by the strong storms/tornadoes in the area the past week or so. In nearby Star Junction a tornado did touch down and caused lots of downed trees and damage.

This weekend's Blessing of Graves is cancelled due to the Adverse weather.
We will have Sunday Divine Liturgy at 9:30am followed by a Memorial Litiya (Panachyda) service for the repose of our family members as well as those who have died in the service of our country. Memory eternal.

As something of a supplement to our regular Tuesday evening discussions on the Divine Liturgy, I am recommending instead that you join me in listening to this special Talk offered by Fr. Stelyios Maksuris, a Greek Orthodox priest and scholar, who will be offering the annual Ss Cyril and Methodius Lecture sponsored the Byzantine Catholic Seminary in Pittsburgh. His talk is titled, “Remember Me in Your Kingdom, O Lord”: Rethinking Liturgical Commemoration in the Byzantine Rite of Proskomide”. The talk will be streamed on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/live/GFuk92KF52M at 7pm Tuesday, May 12.

A few weeks ago we had done an ‘educational’ Preparation rite at the Liturgy at Monessen, so this lecture will provide some additional rich background on the actual commemoration / prayers of intercession for people offered during this part of the Liturgy. Fr. Stelyios is a fine scholar who has written extensively on the Liturgy in addition to his teaching. I trust you will find the talk informative.
We’ll endeavor to continue the regular series next week, wrapping the Liturgy series up this month. If you wish to have another educational series during the summer, please suggest some topics and let me know by May 25th.

Tonight - our next Zoom session on the Introduction to the Liturgy - Session 6 we will discuss the Beginning of the Liturgy of the Eucharist and the important liturgical moments - such as the Cherubic Hymn, the Kiss of Peace, the Creed, etc.

UPDATED - Power of Hope Generator Project

By the grace of God and the generosity of almost 30 donors (outside of those in our parish), St. Nicholas Church continues to receive donations from residents of our region of Southwest Pa, to provide power generation equipment in support of people living in devastated localities in Ukraine who have no other reliable source of power.. The total thus far is approaching $3500.

Because of the strong response, we'll continue to keep the campaign open for another week or so, until the remaining donations are received from all sources, at which time the funds will be forwarded to the Ukr. Orthodox Church of the USA, and channeled directly through the Church network in Ukraine for distribution of equipment.

We are so thankful to our friends and neighbors in the Pittsburgh area and beyond who have responded to this appeal.
