John Franklin “Hobo” Heath, age, 84, died at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with his loving family at his side. He was born in Bibb County, Georgia to the late John and Louise Perdue Heath.

Hobo is preceded in death by his parents, son in law, David Oakley; grandson Timothy Oakley; brothers, Charles & William “Goo” Heath; sisters, Runelle Partin, Annie “Duck” Tripp, Susie “Kat” Elixson, Ruby Phillips, and Margaret Johnson.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Brown Heath; sisters, Elizabeth “Mutt” Phillips and Annette Binkley; son, Johnny Heath (wife Merie); daughters, Bonnie Gaster (husband Mitchell), Tonya Oakley, Tracy McKee (husband David); 9 grandchildren (James, Catie, Dustin, Jonathan, Dalton, Christopher, Ally Grace, Erik and Daniel); 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Hobo worked at the UNC Physical Plant as an electrician until retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, golfing, playing cards, watching westerns and he loved spending time with his family. Hobo was one of the founders of the East Chatham Baseball Little League and helped start the Rocky River C**n Hunters Club.

A memorial service will be held at 1 pm at Chatham United Methodist Church, 1826 Chatham Church Road, Moncure, NC on Thursday, August 20, 2026. A visitation will follow the service in the fellowship hall.

He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!!
This morning we decorated the Cross with flowers from Ms Sharon’s Celebration of Life yesterday. It was beautiful seeing everyone work on the Cross!! Thank you Jesus for the hands and feet you use each week at Chatham UMC! May your week be Blessed in the name of Jesus!!
