Monna Margarette (Peggy) Currier
April 22, 1930-June 3, 2026
Peggy Currier was born in Vilas in the Southeast corner of Colorado on April 22, 1930 to W. W.
and Blanche Ownbey Collier, the oldest of six children. She passed away at the age of 96 on June
3, 2026 at Western Slope Memory Care in Grand Junction, under the care of PASCO Hospice.
She lived in several places around SE CO as a child while both of her parents were teachers and
then moved to Kansas City while her dad attended seminary to become a pastor. She graduated
from High School in Lake Ozark, MO, and spent the next year living with her grandmother in
Springfield, CO, while working at a hardware store.
Peggy attended a Baptist Youth Conference in Green Lake, WI in June 1948, where she met
Wallace Currier. They were married six months later, 12/29/48, in Campo, CO, and she moved to
his family’s ranch near Molina, CO, where she would spend the remainder of her life. She and
Wallace enjoyed 62 years together before he passed away in 2011.
She became very involved in her new community and church, including school activities,
Extension Club, and Mission Circle. She taught Sunday School classes and led the youth group in
the church, sang in choir, and held many leadership positions in Molina Baptist Church, the
Grand Mesa Camp, and in their denomination at the State and Regional levels. She served many
years on the Collbran Hospital Board, and when it became impossible financially to keep the
hospital open with increasing regulations, led the effort to create the Plateau Valley Medical
Clinic. She also served many years as an EMT with the PV Fire District. She spent countless hours
studying the Bible and researching Biblical Archeology, and in later years was thrilled to visit in
person many of the places she studied.
Peggy was preceded in death by a sister and a brother and is survived by three sisters. She is
also survived by three daughters, Linda (Earl) Hittle, Janice, and Lavonne (Dave Croze), and by
two sons, Carlyle (Dawn) and Mark (Roberta), and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Molina Baptist Church on June 20 at 3:00 PM. Memorial
donations may be made to Molina Baptist Church Missions or the Plateau Valley Fire District.
