“I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”
— Philippians 4:13

We turned it into a "Superman verse."

But Paul wrote it from prison.

Not about winning.
Not about flexing.
Not about dominating his enemies.

About surviving.

Hunger. Hardship.
Having nothing… and still saying,
“Jesus is enough.”

That’s the “all things.”

But that’s not how many of us use it.

That verse is way too good
to not twist and monetize.

So now it’s home decor, apparel,
tattoos, and a pregame speech.

We turned it into a slogan
for Christian bro culture.

“All things” becomes our goals.
Our plans.
Our ambitions—stamped with God’s approval.

Like Jesus is a co-signer
on whatever we already decided to do.

He just provides the brute strength to back us up.

Nope.

Because context matters.

Not just the moment it was written—
the culture, the audience, the struggle…

…but the bigger story it sits inside.

The movement from law to grace.
From the Old Covenant to the New.
From earning righteousness…
to receiving it through Christ.

Because when Jesus said,
“It is finished,”
He didn’t leave room for us
to keep acting like it isn’t.

But context doesn’t just live on the page.

It lives in the heart reading it.

Because we don’t just misread Scripture—
we choose to reshape it.

So we grab verses,
trim the parts we don’t like,
and bend them around our egos, politics, and preferences.

We quote: “Go and sin no more”…
but skip the first part of that same verse:
"Neither do I condemn thee"

We quote: “Submit to governing authorities…”
…but only when it's our governing authorities.

We quote: “Give unto Caesar”…
but only when it’s our Caesar.

That’s not reading Scripture.

That’s editing it.

And the more we reshape His words…
the less they’re able to reshape us.

This little boy, Khu Phray Reh age 10, and his family recently had to flee their village in Karenni State, Burma(Myanmar) for safety from the Burma Army. Please pray for the people of Burma for peace, safety, freedom, and democracy in their current evil dictatorship situation.
