Jesus Saves

The most amazing fact ever found in Scripture is that the Gospel is for all. In fact, when the Gospel was being revealed, it even took the apostles by surprise that the Gospel could go outside of the sphere of the Jews. When Peter was told to go to the house of Cornelius, he was not expecting to share with them the Gospel and even asked why he was called to come to his house (Acts 10:29).

The Gospel truly is the good news, not just for some, but instead God has designed it so that all might be able to hear and respond. That even goes for those who are the most sinful. Remember Paul, before Christ he was not one that we could call a good Christian. He even admits to Timothy that he was the chief of sinners (1 Timothy 1:12-15). Yet, because of Christ, he was saved.

It does not matter the life that you have lived, it does not matter the things that you have done. What matters is your life right now. There may be consequences for the sins that were committed in the past that will always be with us, but the freedom of the guilt of those sins can be ours (Romans 8:1). Why do we have the Gospel? Why do we call it the good news? Only through the Gospel can all of mankind, from all backgrounds, be saved through Christ. Everyone is invited to hear and respond, what will be your response be today?

Come, Lord Jesus

Just three words from the end of our Bibles, John writes, “Come, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20). This expression of longing is one that every Christian should have. John eagerly anticipated the return of Christ, yet many today struggle to maintain this same perspective. The distractions of this world and all of the pleasures it has to offer, can easily take our attention away from the promise of His return. For some who have been distracted, or even those who are living faithfully, we may need a reminder about that day.

When the Lord returns, there will be no more opportunities to prepare. There will be no more working toward repentance, no more last-minute efforts to make things right, and no more promises that tomorrow will be the day we begin living faithfully for God. On that day we will all stand before the judgment seat of Christ and give an account (Romans 14:10). Nothing is hidden from the eyes of the Lord. Every word, action, and motive is known by Him. How will you fair?

The return of Christ does not have to be fearful; the thought of His return should be joyful and exciting. For those who are in Christ, it is a day of hope and rejoicing. Through His sacrifice we have redemption and forgiveness of sins (Ephesians 1:7). On that day there will be no more sorrow, pain, or tears. Instead, we will enjoy eternity with Him (Revelation 21:1-4).

Are you ready for that day? Longing for His return? We do not have to be fearful of the end, but excited to meet our Lord, and to hear those wonderful words; “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Just three words from the end of our Bibles, John writes, “Come, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20). This expression of longing is one that every Christian should have. To Tell of Christ

How many different ways do you think we can write about, or talk about, the glory of Christ? Even when John wrote his gospel he ends it by saying,

“And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written” (John 21:25).

John, speaking of everything that Jesus had done in His ministry while on the earth, said there were too many things to even write a book about. Think of Jesus’s work and how it is still ongoing today.

The reason that we have our salvation is because Jesus died once and for all on that cross, offering salvation to all of mankind (1 John 2:1-2).

The reason that we have a hope is because Jesus Himself being God in the flesh, promised us a home in heaven with Him (John 14:1-3).

The reason that we can come before our Heavenly Father spiritually in prayer is because Christ is our High Priest, offering us a way through Him, with confidence, to the Father (Hebrews 4:15-16).

There is a song that we sometimes sing, “I love to tell the story”. Is that true for us today? Do we truly love to talk about Christ and all of His wonderful blessings that He has given to us? If not, maybe we should take some time just to think about all that Christ has done for us.

How many different ways do you think we can write about, or talk about, the glory of Christ? Even when John wrote his gospel he ends it by saying,

Benefitting or Hindering?

Modern technology has brought many benefits into our lives. We can communicate instantly with loved ones, access information within seconds, and share knowledge easily. Technology can be a useful tool when it is used wisely and responsibly. However, it can also become a major spiritual distraction if we are not careful.

Phones, social media, streaming services, and entertainment constantly compete for our attention and time. After a long week, it may feel easier to stay home and watch a service online rather than coming to the assembly. It might be more convenient to watch the mid-week Bible study since it is so late in the day. But what does God command? What example did the 1st century Church give us? They met each first day of the week to worship God (Acts 20:7, Hebrews 10:24-25), they constantly sought out ways to fellowship with one another.

Many people can easily quote movies, songs, or random trivia facts, because of the time they have invested in it, yet struggle to remember God’s Word. Perhaps, if we devoted as much time, or more, to the study of God’s Word, then it would be easier for us to remember what He has said (Psalms 119:11, 2 Timothy 2:15).

Technology is not sinful by itself, but Christians must use it carefully. We should ask whether it is helping us grow closer to God or distracting us from Him. True joy and contentment are not found in entertainment or possessions, but in faithfully serving God and appreciating the blessings He has already provided (1 Timothy 6:6).

What Has Changed?

Look around at the world and consider how much has changed over the years. There was a time when morals, respect, and good behavior were expected to be taught in the home. As time has passed, however, society has declined in many ways, and those values are often replaced with personal success, entertainment, and pleasure.

Many parents seem more concerned with careers, hobbies, or recreation than with the spiritual and moral growth of their children. Society has influenced the way many people view what is truly important. Church attendance becomes optional, Bible study is pushed aside until there is extra time (which never comes), and morals slowly fade away. What has caused these changes? Here are 3 possible changes that have taken place:

A Lost Sight.
Colossians 3:1-2 teaches us to set our minds on things above and to keep our focus on Heaven, yet how many do this?
2. A Lack of Self-Discipline.
1 Timothy 4:7-8 reminds Christians to discipline themselves for godliness and to resist the deception of sin (Hebrews 3:12-14).
3. A Clear Sense of Right And Wrong.
Isaiah 5:20 warns that the Israelites lack of concern for the judgement day had caused many to change the idea of what is wrong to be right.
Perhaps a shift in priorities is needed. Before we can change others, we have to change ourselves, ensuring that we are not just putting on a show. Instead, be those who grow in Christ, and do not decline with society.

Good vs. Evil

How blessed are you? Stop for a moment and think about the blessings that God has given to you. How long is your list? Could it be longer? There are so many things that God has given to us that we have taken for granted, such as our bodies. Have you thought about how blessed you are to have been made?

A harder question: are you using the body that God has given you for His glory and praise, or are you using it for evil? All that we do should be in the name of Jesus (Colossians 3:17). Now, being redeemed, we are called to live our lives in a way that brings glory to Him (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Being those who belong to him, our lives are now His.

Think about some of the things that we may do in our bodies that do not bring praise, or honor, or glory to God. The music that we listen to; is it glorifying Christ or is promoting the things that put Christ on the cross? The movies that we watch; can we say that we do that in the name of Jesus without bringing shame upon us? Or do we watch the things that are specifically condemned in the Bible? God has given us our bodies that we might serve Him and glorify Him, but far too often we tend to take the blessing for granted and use what he has given us for evil instead of good.

How blessed are you? Stop for a moment and think about the blessings that God has given to you. How long is your list? Could it be longer? There are so many things that God has given to us that we have taken for granted, such as our bodies. Have you thought about how blessed you are to have been mad...

How’s the Fishing?

Have you ever been walking alongside a river or a lake and seen someone fishing? What is your initial reaction? Do you just say hello or are you the one who asks if they have caught anything? It seems there are two kinds of answers depending on the fisherman. One who has a good spot and doesn’t want to share may give an evasive answer. Another will simply tell you what’s going on.

What if someone asked you about your fishing? When Jesus called His apostles, He said, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” We are not apostles, yet we are called to seek souls and reach others as we can, becoming fishermen for Him. How is the fishing going? There are many to reach. It is our task to try our best. Read of Paul in 1 Corinthians 9:19–23. Have you tried anything to bring some soul to Christ?

Have you invited someone to Friends and Family Day?

Are you planning on helping with Daniel Boone Days booth?

Are you trying to speak to people you meet daily?

Ask any good fisherman what is needed, he will say the right bait and patience. We are not trapping people, but we must learn how to reach them. Different approaches work for different people. The gospel is for everyone, and God’s word builds faith in all. What we are left with is finding that way to reach those that we are around.

The Humanity of Christ

There are a few thought-provoking statements in the Bible that are easy to miss if they are not on our minds. In John 4:6 we find one that says, “…Jesus being wearied from His journey…” This was the Word who took on flesh. The Word that John said the world came through, and that He existed in the form of God. Yet this Word made flesh was wearied from traveling. The question is how?

In Philippians 2:7, Paul says that Christ emptied Himself. What does that mean, and how is that possible? There are many questions beyond our understanding, and things we may never fully comprehend on this earth. Instead of asking how this was possible, maybe we should ask why it matters.

Seeing the humanity of Christ helps us to better understand the mediator we have on our side pleading our case. Because Christ fully took on flesh and emptied Himself, He could feel tired and be tempted, so He can sympathize with us (Hebrews 4:15). Seeing His humanity fills the Christian with encouragement, because we can go to the One who knows our struggles and He understands.

Christ had to endure everything from common daily struggles to dying on the cross. This gives us a way to follow Him daily. You may have normal daily struggles, or it could be things that no one else around you understands, but Christ knows and understands. We should look to Him, knowing He took on flesh to understand our problems, and gave us an example to follow.
