Each year we host our Altar Servers to lunch at the end of the school year for Cannonball Day. This year we had to celebrate a day early because of the exam schedule. Cannonball day is extremely important to us at St. Ignatius because if there was no cannonball, we might not have a St. Ignatius or a Society of Jesus.

We are happy to welcome Fr. Jim Dane to St. Ignatius Parish! Fr. Dane will begin his duties as Parochial Vicar here, effective June 26th. Fr. Dane currently serves as Pastor of St. Columba Parish, Dothan. During his 43 years of priestly duties in the Archdiocese of Mobile he has also served as pastor of St. Thomas by the Sea Parish, Orange Beach and St. Agatha Parish, Bay Minette.

This will not be Fr. Dane’s first time to serve at St. Ignatius. He served as an associate pastor in 1983 at the time of his ordination to the priesthood. We are happy to welcome “home” Fr. Jim, a well known and beloved priest of our Archdiocese. Please give him a warm welcome the weekend of June 27th and 28th.

As we welcome Fr. Jim, we also bid farewell to Fr. José Paillacho, who has served us faithfully for 3 years, and has been assigned as Parochial Vicar of St. Catherine Parish, and other parishes. We also bid farewell to Fr. Augustine Odhiambo, who, like Fr. José, will be assigned as Parochial Vicar of St. Catherine Parish, along with several other parishes in the Mobile Archdiocese.

Please pray for all of our priests, especially those who will begin new duties in June.
