Downtown Church Family,

I wanted to share a few updates and some exciting news with you this week!

First, our Pastor Search Committee has held its first meeting, and I’m grateful for their willingness to serve during this season of transition. Please continue to pray for each member of the committee as we seek God’s wisdom and direction in finding the next pastor for Downtown Church. We want to be sensitive to His leading and confident in His timing.

And here’s some GREAT NEWS! Our new children’s playground is being installed this week! In fact, as I’m writing this email, the crew is hard at work getting everything in place. What an exciting addition to our campus and another way we can invest in the children and families God is bringing to Downtown Church! I can’t wait for you to see it!

Finally, I hope you’ll make plans to join us THIS SUNDAY, October 18, as we continue our DIVINE DESIGN: God’s Plan for Marriage sermon series.

We will also be observing the Lord’s Supper together, taking time to remember and celebrate what Jesus has done for us through His death on the cross. I’m looking forward to a meaningful time of worship with our Downtown Church family.

God is at work at Downtown Church, and I believe there are great days are ahead!

As we head toward the weekend, I know many of us are keeping a close eye on the storm that could impact our area Friday and Saturday.

I want to encourage you to stay alert, be safe, and take whatever precautions are necessary for you and your family. Let's also be praying for our community and for those who may be impacted by the storm. As always, we will communicate any changes to our Sunday schedule should they become necessary.

This Sunday, I'm excited to begin a brand-new sermon series called DIVINE DESIGN: God's Plan for Marriage. When it comes to marriage, God has not left us to figure it out on our own. His Word gives us a design for marriage that allows our homes to experience His peace, joy, and purpose. Whether you've been married for decades, are newly married, or hope to be married someday, I believe there will be something in this series for you. I hope you'll make plans to join us...and invite someone to come with you!

And don't forget that our MIDweek study of Romans 8 continues next Wednesday. Romans 8 is one of the most encouraging and hope-filled chapters in all of Scripture, and I've enjoyed walking through it together. Join us for dinner, fellowship, and another opportunity to search the Scriptures together.

STORM UPDATE
We’re continuing to monitor the storm. Our hope is to be ready to care for one another and meet needs as they arise. For immediate needs following the storm or if you are available to help in clean up efforts please contact Pastor Lonnie at 251-421-7590.

SUNDAY
At this time, we plan to hold our regular Sunday services and begin our new sermon series, Divine Design, a study on God’s plan for marriage.

We’ll continue to monitor the storm and share updates as conditions develop. If our Sunday plans change, we’ll let you know as soon as possible.

Downtown Church Moving FORWARD
-
A little over a year ago, we began a journey together that we called FORWARD. We believed God was calling us as a church to take some significant steps of faith...to move Forward on mission, Forward together, Forward in serving, Forward in prayer, Forward by faith, and Forward in commitment.

On Sunday, October 4, we will reach an important milestone: the halfway point of our two-year FORWARD initiative. I want to personally encourage you to make plans to be with us for this very special Sunday.

We’re going to take some time to celebrate and thank God for what He has already done in just 12 months at Downtown Church. I’ll also share a word of encouragement and challenge as we look toward the next 12 months and all that God still has ahead of us.

I think there are three ways we can view the halfway point:
We can look at how far we still have to go and become discouraged.
We can look at how far we’ve already come and become comfortable.
We can look at what God has already done, thank Him for His faithfulness, and keep moving FORWARD.

And that’s exactly what we’re going to do.

We can celebrate how far God has brought us without settling for where we are.
We’re halfway there…but we’re not finished. God is not done!

I hope you’ll join us on Sunday, October 4, as we celebrate His faithfulness and recommit ourselves to keep moving FORWARD together.

“My husband and I moved to Mobile in 2018 immediately after getting married, and for years, we struggled to find where we truly belonged. We wanted to find meaningful friendships and a community we could call home, but it never seemed to happen.

Since joining Downtown Church, and especially our Lifegroup, we finally feel like we’ve found that. We’ve made genuine friendships, found people who truly know and care about us, and have a community to do life with. After years of searching, it’s such a gift to finally feel like we belong. We’re so grateful for Downtown Church and the people who have become like family to us.”

What a great Sunday we shared last week as we celebrated the Cagles and their five years of ministry at Downtown Church!

I am personally grateful for Pastor David...for his friendship, his faithfulness, and the way he has served the Downtown Church family. Please continue to pray for sweet family as they make the transition to Chelsea and begin this new chapter of ministry.

This Sunday, September 27, I’ll share more about what’s ahead for Downtown Church. I’m also grateful to announce that we now have a Pastor Search Committee in place that will partner with me as we seek God’s direction for the next pastor of DTC. Those who have agreed to serve are Kim Martin, Josh Roy, Tony Dresler, Colton Cook, and Cindy Taylor. I’m thankful for their willingness to serve, and I’m asking our entire church family to covenant together to pray for them, for the search process, and especially for the man God is preparing to lead Downtown Church into the future. I believe God has good things ahead for DTC, and I’m grateful we get to seek His direction together.

Finally, we will conclude our MIDWeek Study of Systematic Theology next Wednesday, September 30, by examining the question, “What Is the Final Judgment?” I hope you’ll join us for dinner, fellowship, and a time of searching the Scriptures together.
