Greetings Downtown Church,

When writing to the early church, Peter offers a ‘carrot’ of sorts. He shares how it’s possible for Christians to “love life” and to “see good days”, and then he proceeds to go on to share how that can be achieved.

What’s particularly interesting is the audience Peter writes to—Christians who have been enduring persecution and difficult circumstances. Even in the midst of a broken, fallen world, it’s absolutely possible for God’s people to go through life in a way where they’re grateful for another day and eager to see God’s goodness at work in and around them.

We hope you’ll join us this Lord’s day as we unpack this truth together as we continue our 1 Peter study. God’s Word is truly a gift to God’s people, and we look forward to studying it with all of you.

Have a great weekend! Much love to all of you. See you soon, DTC.

Your brother in Christ,
Pastor David Cagle

Lately, you will find Mike Parker somewhere on a ladder and covered in dust working hard on repairs and upkeep of our over 100 years old building. He is such a faithful servant in all that he does.

When certain tasks don’t go as planned and he has to discuss the issues, he always ends with the same phrase.

DTC is truly BLESSED to have Mike!

Christians experience an interesting tension as we live out our faith in this world. We strive to do things like love our neighbors and live holy lives, yet those efforts aren't always met with smiles or gratitude.

At times, faithfully following Jesus comes with a cost—one where you’re viewed or treated poorly. The Christians Peter wrote to in 1 Peter knew this all too well. This Sunday, we’ll study a few encouragements Peter gives to believers who are being treated poorly because of their faith. We’ll also consider how these truths might encourage us given the similar dynamics we experience in this life.

This Sunday is also a 5th Sunday, which means the older kids from our Kids Ministry will join us for worship. We’ll also share in the Lord’s Supper as a church family, remembering and celebrating what Christ accomplished for us.

Until then, have a great weekend!

Your brother in Christ,
Pastor David Cagle

Dear DTC family,

Our Midweek gatherings are officially underway! Whether you have a little one who crawls around on the floor or you’re in your retirement years, we have something for everyone on Wednesday evenings.

In our adult study, we’ve kicked off a study on “Systematic Theology”. I know eyes tend to glaze over when they hear the word theology, but it’s actually an incredibly practical (and important) study as we think through some of the core beliefs we hold to as Christians and biblically bolster the *why* behind those beliefs. We also have planned activities for our kids as well as a Bible study for our students in grades 6-12.

If you’re interested in joining us, here’s a schedule for our Wednesday evenings:

5:45-6:30 PM Dinner
6:30-7:30 PM Bible Studies for all ages

Dinner is $7 per adult, $5 per child, with a $25 cap for families.

You can park in our usual lot across the street from the church. We’d love to see you next week!

Your brother in Christ,
Pastor David Cagle

Looking for a place to connect at Downtown Church? Join a Lifegroup!

Whether you're new to Downtown Church or simply looking for a new group, we encourage you to sign up to try a Lifegroup this fall.

We believe one of the best ways to grow in your faith and build meaningful relationships is through biblical community, and joining a Lifegroup is a great place to start!

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2

The Bible is filled with clear exhortations and commands for God’s people. Like a parent with a child, the lines the Lord draws for us are for our good. It is ‘good’ for God’s people to do what this command speaks of. We are instructed to “carry each other’s burdens”.

Might your life look (or feel) different if someone was helping to “carry” the load with you?

Might you be encouraged to know you’re not alone?

God, in His wisdom, grants us such help. Not only through His Spirit, but also through His people. At Downtown Church, we desire for you to experience that level of community. We offer what we call Life Groups. These groups are opportunities for you to experience a pocket of community within the context of our faith family.

This Sunday, we’ll be highlighting the groups we offer. We would love for you to consider joining one of these groups if you have not already!

We hope to see you and yours this coming Lord’s Day!

Your brother in Christ,
Pastor David Cagle

"To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,” Ephesians 6:18b

School is just around the corner, which presents an opportunity for us as a church family. As the Apostle Paul instructed the church, we should “make supplications for all the saints”—which, in essence, means we should pray for other Christians. And we’re to do this in a way where we’re “keeping alert” as to what’s going on in their lives, job changes, hardships, decisions to be made, or possibly as they begin something new.

To that end, this Sunday at Downtown Church, we’ll have a “Back to School” emphasis in our service. We’ll spend time praying over our students as well as those who serve as educators. We believe in the power of prayer, and we desire to see the Lord work in and through those in our church family who will be in education settings all across our city this year. We hope you’ll join us as we corporately set our hearts on the Lord and lift up these brothers and sisters in Christ in prayer.

If there’s a specific way we can pray for you or your family, feel free to reach out. It would be our honor to walk with you through whatever you might be facing. We hope you have a great weekend! And we look forward to seeing you and yours this coming Lord’s Day. See you soon, DTC!

Pastor David Cagle
