Psalm 96:3–4a (ESV)
3Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!
4For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;

The word “declare” here can also be translated “announce.” The psalmist is urging God’s people to announce His marvelous works. And who are we to proclaim those works to? — “the nations.”

Right now, we have a team in Costa Rica serving alongside one of our international ministry partners, 6:8 Ministries. For more than 20 years, they have faithfully been declaring the glory of God and making disciples here. Even after all these years of Kingdom work, there are still many people to reach and much work to be done.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to come alongside them and play a small part in making Christ known in this part of the world.

Whether or not you ever go on a mission trip, every believer can play a role in taking/sending the gospel to the nations. Thank you for your prayers, your generosity, and your faithful support of the work God is calling our church to.

And let’s not forget — we have the same mission back home. May we continue working together to take this message of hope to the nations, including our own.

See you soon, DTC! Much love.

Your brother in Christ,
Pastor David Cagle

If God brought us through the river, He can bring us through what comes next.

The Israelites stood at the edge of the Jordan during flood season with no way forward. But God made a way. Before the water stopped, they had to step out in faith first.

Sometimes obedience comes before understanding.

The same God who was faithful then is faithful now.

“The Lord is the strength of His people.”
Psalm 28:8

Greetings Downtown Church,

There’s an old adage many of us grew up hearing: “If you aim for nothing, you’ll hit it every time.” That is so true, and it’s also true with the words we use. Here’s how the Apostle Paul explained that thought:

Ephesians 4:29 (ESV)
29Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

In recent days, I've enjoyed hearing of several in our faith family who have offered or received encouragements from others in our church. And let’s be clear—none of those happened by accident. Choices were made to intentionally ‘aim for’ building someone up.

But what happens when we “aim for nothing” with our words? What we see in this text is if we don’t willfully choose words that “build up, as fits the occasion,” then it won’t “give grace to those who hear”. Instead, we’re just filling up conversations with noise, or worse...

My hope in this regard is that this trend continues in our church… Let’s choose words that build one another up. Let’s speak to others in our faith family in a way that prompts them to become more like Christ. The Lord just may desire to use the words of your mouth for His purposes.

I hope you all have a great weekend! We look forward to worshipping the Lord with you and yours this coming Lord’s day. See you soon, DTC!

It’s possible to look religious on the outside while giving God very little of our hearts.

In Malachi 1, God rebuked His people because they honored Him with empty sacrifice instead of wholehearted devotion. They gave Him what was leftover instead of what was best.

God is not looking for casual worship or surface-level faith.

He is worthy of our honor, surrender, and lives.

May Christ not simply be part of our lives, may He be our ALL.

Greetings Downtown Church,

In our current series, “Honor”, we’ve been acknowledging specific people within our faith family who are worthy of honor.

When we think about those worthy of honor in this world, we often think of selfless service, sacrifice, and faithful accomplishments. With that in mind, who in all the universe is more deserving of honor than the Lord Himself?

This week, we’ll learn what God’s Word teaches when it comes to honoring the Lord with our lives. As we’ll see, honoring God doesn’t simply involve words; it compels a lifestyle of action.

We hope you’ll make plans to join us this coming Lord’s day. Enjoy your weekend. See you soon, DTC!

Greetings Downtown Church,

“Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise),
“that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”

Ephesians 6:2–3 (ESV)

In our Sunday series, we’ve been reminded of the reality of our need to always give God the glory, and yet, we're also instructed to honor some specific people in our lives. This Scripture is such a reminder.

This Sunday, we’ll have the opportunity to honor the mothers in our fellowship. Downtown Church has been immensely blessed with loving, nurturing mothers and mother figures. The word that comes to mind as I consider the impact these ladies have had on our faith family is “Grateful”. With this gratitude in mind, it will be our joy to honor these special ladies this coming Lord’s day!

We also have the opportunity to celebrate with 7 families participating in our Parent Child Dedication! We’ve been blessed with several babies in recent days, and we can’t wait to celebrate with these families as they dedicate their children and themselves as parents to the Lord. We will also have the opportunity to dedicate ourselves, as their faith family, to partner with them in this intentional disciple-making venture in the days and years to come.

I hope you all have a great weekend! We look forward to gathering together with all of you this coming Lord’s day.

The baptismal waters are stirring at DTC!

We’re grateful for the Lord’s working in our midst. We recently had the privilege of celebrating believer’s baptism with several of our College & Young Adults. We are proud of them for their obedience, and we’re looking forward to walking with them in the days to come.
