“IT IS FINISHED.” Tetelestai is a financial term meaning “paid in full” or “the job is done” that all would have known and understood while watching the gruesome scene of Jesus being crucified by bloodthirsty professional executioners. The nails that pinned His hands and feet to that used, rugged, humiliating cross are not what kept Him there - and on this Good Friday we all need to take a moment and remind ourselves that it is His love and grace alone that He chose to credit to our accounts that led Jesus to full, complete physical death on our behalf.
Judas may have betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver, but you and I betray Jesus daily for free and forget the true pain and suffering that He took in our place - He took our sinful place in the eyes of God so that we could take His perfect place in the eyes of God, and as a result that relationship has been restored with our all powerful Creator.
Fortunately, that wasn’t the end of the story - and though it felt like all was lost as the followers of Jesus ran away and it was all over - Jesus would go on to defeat sin and death and resurrect Himself, leaving evidence and eyewitness testimonies of Himself physically resurrected, so that we as believers 2000 years later can still be confident in the reason for the hope that we have. Glory!
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. - ALL who call on the name of the Lord WILL be saved.
It is not what you can do to achieve it, because you can do NOTHING to achieve salvation - but recognizing what has already been done for you and understanding the need for a Savior, and putting your trust in Jesus to apply what He did for you on your behalf.
If you have any questions about the Gospel, Jesus, the Resurrection, anything - drop us a line and we would love to talk with you.
