Call to Prayer for All Persons Affected by the Chemical Incident in Orange County
Over 40,000 persons are under evacuation orders living in the area centered on the GKN Aerospace facility in Garden Grove, where a tank containing methyl methacrylate overheated and created a risk of either a chemical spill or explosion. Officials said there was no active gas plume detected at the present time, but the evacuation area was set because of the danger that the tank could fail, spill thousands of gallons of chemical, or explode. This is an unprecedented situation in the history of Orange County that is causing deep concern and anxiety among residents
In a situation like this, the Apostle Paul reminds Christians to turn to God as their source of protection and provision: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)
Garden Grove UMC is cancelling all worship services and ministry programs until further notice and requesting prayers for all persons and communities affected.
