On this Sunday we celebrate the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity, which leads us to contemplate and worship the divine life of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit: a life of communion and perfect love, origin and aim of all the universe and of every creature: God. We also recognize in the Trinity the model for the Church, in which we are called to love each other as Jesus loved us. And love is the concrete sign that demonstrates faith in God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We are created in love to be a community of loving persons, just as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are united in love. From the day of our Baptism, we have belonged to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. How privileged we are to grow up in such a beautiful Family! Hence, let us turn to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in prayer every day. We belong to the Family of the Triune God. The love, unity and joy in the relationship among the Father, Son and Holy Spirit should be the supreme model of our relationships within our Christian families. Our families become truly Christian when we live in a relationship of love with God and with others.

Glory be to the Father, Who by His almighty power and love created me, making me in the image and likeness of God.
Glory be to the Son, Who by His Precious Blood delivered me from hell, and opened for me the gates of heaven.
Glory be to the Holy Spirit, Who has sanctified me in the sacrament of Baptism, and continues to sanctify me by the graces I receive daily from His bounty.
Glory be to the Three adorable Persons of the Holy Trinity, now and forever. Amen.

St. Agnes Mission, Mirando City, Texas, Webb County. The townsite of Mirando City is on land granted to Nicolás Mirando. Originally it was a small ranching community. In April 1921 Oliver Winfield Killam brought in the first commercial oil well in the area. Quickly he began to purchase land in Mirando Valley and by September 1921, he started laying out the town of Mirando City. In December, a gusher at another drilling site ushered in an oil boom. Lots began selling rapidly, and the town quickly became a hub of activity. In that same year, the first chapel made of wood, was built. In 1971 realizing the old church was badly deteriorated, the community and the Franciscans, represented by Fr. Alberto Hernandez, decided to build a new church made of brick and cement. The new church was dedicated to St. Agnes and blessed in 1972. The Franciscan continue to serve St. Agnes Mission.

Pentecost! The Holy Spirit! So often we have very little understanding of the Holy Spirit in our lives, even though that Spirit is always with us and always seeking to draw us into the love of God! We need to ask that Spirit to be present right now: Come, Holy Spirit!

May this Holy Spirit come upon us today, guiding us in love, truth and forgiveness. May this Holy Spirit give us unity in the Church and faithfulness in preaching the Gospel. May this Holy Spirit guide us in the path of right living and away from the values of this world. Amen.

What does it matter for us today that Jesus ascended into heaven? While we hear it in both the first reading and gospel today, we also confess it every Sunday and Solemnity in the Creed: “He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.” This is not merely an arbitrary dogma which must be held by all who call themselves Christian, it also most relevant to our own personal spirituality. Probably the most notable aspect of this event for our spiritual lives is that human nature is united with the Godhead forever.
This is important for us because the incarnate Son, God himself, is interceding for us to the Father for our sanctification and final salvation. He does not intercede for us merely in his divinity, but also in his humanity. Thus, in a time when the humanity of so many is demeaned or even denied, the ascended Christ shines out like a light in the darkness, reminding us of the greatness to which we are called as human beings, namely that it is possible for God and man to be totally united and that the power to make this a reality can come only through Jesus Christ.
