The snow has melted, and grass and leaves have begun to green up. Welcome to April at Groveland Cemetery!
We want you to be aware of a couple upcoming events related to the cemetery. First is the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Groveland Cemetery Association! This will take place on Saturday, May 17 in the Shady Oak Room at the Minnetonka Community Center at 10:00 am. Coffee and donuts will be served. In place of our usual speaker section, we will be presenting and discussing plans for constructing a columbarium along with a plaza and garden walkway between sections 7 & 8 (north part of the cemetery).
Second, please join us on Monday, May 26th at 9:00 am sharp for the annual Memorial Day Service, beginning with the flag ceremony by American Legion Post 259.
Our guest speaker for the event will be Gary Marquardt, State Director of Bugles Across America, a non-profit of over 4000 volunteers performing LIVE Taps at the honors ceremonies for veterans all across the country. Coffee and donuts will be provided for this event as well. Come join us as we honor the more than 350 veterans who have their final resting place at Groveland.
Detailed information can be found in the current issue of the Groveland Cemetery Gazette, or our website at www.grovelandcemetery.org.

This is a little late, and I apologize. Our Memorial Day program was done in the rain, but it was still a wonderful event.
The Excelsior American Legion performed the opening, followed by our guest speaker, Minnetonka Fire Chief John Vance.
The program concluded with a thank you from the Board of Directors to the American Legion for their generous donation of a brand new flagpole, followed by the playing of our National Anthem.
Thanks to everyone for coming out and braving the elements!
We’ll see you next year!!

Memorial Day 2021 was one to remember! The weather was absolutely perfect as over 200 people gathered at 9:00 a.m. to honor our military veterans.
The Excelsior VFW and the Excelsior American Legion led is in prayer, followed by the 21-gun salute, and ending with taps and the raising of the flag to half staff.
Our guest speaker this year was State Representative Kelly Morrison from our local district 33B. Thank you, Representative Morrison, for sharing with us!
The program concluded with the playing (and some singing!) of the National Anthem.
This year also marks the 150th anniversary of the Groveland Cemetery. Thank you to all who came out to make this such a memorable day. See you next year!

Stopped by the cemetery on Sunday, April 18, to check out the Spring beauty. It was wonderful to see how everything is greening up! The flowers are starting to bloom. And people are back visiting loved ones. I came across this group having a picnic lunch and visiting one of their friends 😄.

Just a reminder that there will be a Memorial Day service at the cemetery, starting promptly at 9:00 a.m. COVID protocols will be in place. No refreshments will be served but feel free to bring your own. We look forward to seeing you!
